PS4 Headset Comparisons / Options

i too only use the headset when gaming with mates.

having it plugged in constantly is a must due to the tight space and size of tv, it's not easy to get in behind it (50 inch plasma).

therefore wireless was my only choice.

now though the ps4 controller has a jack which allows you to wirelessly connect a mono headset, I have a yamaha soundbar for when not gaming with mates, etc.

so i'm thinking that £20 turtle beach p4c aka playstation 4 communicator is the best option. plugs into controller, no additional wires, etc, essentially making it wireless as the controller is.

Makes sense then. I wouldn't want to be faffing on getting behind the TV all the time. My living room TV is currently on the wall so wouldn't be any good for me on this setup but bought new TV and stand for the move the it'll be easy to plug it into the back there (has connection on side too).

P4C looks ideal for the price too. I ordered the P11 but don't intend to open it yet. I'm going to keep it in the box and if sets like the P4C get good reviews once out then I can just send it back and grab one of those instead.

But at least I have one I know works, and I know is a good headset and ready to go if reviews don't seem too impressive for other models. So if not, I open the one I bought.

Would have been nice if the bundles included options for headsets too like. Instead I'll just have the sell off the camera, which covers the cost of headset (although it's all paid for via Amazon vouchers anyway but still like to do that)

theres other options out there which aren't turtle beach on amazon for £20, there is even a stereo one with a dual DS4 charging stand, etc.

so you get a stereo headset, wired though to the DS4 stand i imagine, which is connected to the console by USB, again the wires are an issue here, but you get a free dual DS4 charging stand in this setup as well as stereo sound.

anyway i've decided the £20 crappy mono setup which plugs into the controller is going to be the best way to go.

will probably end up selling my £100+ headset on ebay for £20 to cover the costs.

Yeah I actually had that one on order until a few days ago. Didn't want to buy a headset without reviews as some of them turn out to be garbage. Will be keeping an eye out for user reviews once the consoles out.

You might get more than you think for it. Ebay is always a bit hit and miss like - I never seem to get good prices for things. Just sold £500 of transformers figures than cost me £1200 a few years ago. Only kept about 20 of my faves. If i'd knew that's all I'd have got I'd have kept them but it's done now.

Maybe worth sticking it on Gumtree for a week for £60 or something if you live somewhere that is easily accessible for people. I'm right in the NE corner so tend not to get much coverage up here but still sold a 360 for £60 in only a few hours and it only cost £65 in 2010. Worth a shot!

Also just sold a Sony Bluray player that was free with new TV. RRP £110 and sold it in 24 hours for £85.

I've got a pair of wired DX12's for my 360. Really hoping I can use them for the PS4 and the only purchase I'll need to make is 2.5mm to 3.5mm headphone jack adaptor.

*edit*
Just looked at the console compatibilty bit on the website and it seems my guess was correct :D They say you need a PS4 chat cable but really it's just an adaptor with a lead on.

Yeah it's just a male to male 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable. But I've heard reports from US of some cables not working if you don't buy the TB one. Not sure how that can be like as it's just an adaptor. Only £2.50 on Amazon anyway so not like it costs much to find out

It does say on their website that some cables might not work. I'll get one anyway and see.

Get some Astro's.. I have the A40's and A50's and are by far the best headsets I've used.

Holy **** balls my G930 will work? User satisfaction only 2 though no idea what that means.

how is that setup because my headset is a logitech one and it requires a USB into the front of the ps3 and RCA from the av multi out which has been removed from the ps4.

i take it the G930 only takes a USB from the front and nothing else?

therefore i require a DAC on the ps4 to get the optical out changed to RCA, then plug the USB in the front.

Does anyone know about the stereo starter headset with charging dock on amazon at the minute, will this be like the mono headset and connect via the controller rather than fully wired to the ps?

what adapter would i need for the siberia v2's??

I'm trying to figure this out myself.

Looks like there are two ways:

1. USB into the PS4 and single 3.5mm Jack into my monitor (cutting out the dual RCA and only using the single 3.5mm Jack) OR;
2. Cut out the LiveMix USB feature (small black rectangle on the picture) and buy a twin to single 3.5mm jack converter, which plugs straight into the PS4 controller.

I'm pretty sure option 2 works, but I lose the LiveMix functionality. Not sure about option 1, however I don't see why it wouldn't work?

A possible third option is buying some sort of RCA to Toslink converter (much like an Astro Mixamp?), which converts the dual RCA to single Optical at the back of the PS4:

Option 3 will obviously be more expensive, but should work and provide all functionality?

it looks like it will connect by 2 wires one to the controller and the other to the charging dock, the charging dock then connects to the ps4 by USB.

otherwise it would be totally retarded if they made the charging dock connect to the ps4 as well as the headset seperately because that means all your ports are now used up as well as having more wires to deal with into the ps4, but i guess most people use them for charging anyway so maybe not a big deal for most, but for others who use USB for other devices as well not so good.

it's impossible to get stereo sound from the controller, therefore for stereo sound it must connect to the ps4 somehow, either by USB or through optical.

as for the DAC option i would avoid cheap £10 DAC's from ebay/china, they only work with stereo inputs, don't come with UK plugs, probably aren't safety tested, etc as well as the actual SQ will be most likely terrible.

much better to spend £50 on a fiio, or on another headset.
