PS4 Headset Comparisons / Options

I've got the Soundblaster Recon 3D's which are compatible as well as compatible with pc/ ps3/ xbox360. Unsure about xbox one. They come with a small unit which connects via optical jack and usb. The headset connects wirelessly, although there is also the option to connect any headphones / headset with a 3.5mm jack and it will use its software to create a virtual surround sound stage, which I have found to be excellent with both the supplied headphones and also my set of standard stereo senheisers.

I do like the look of these but aren't they quite uncomfortable after an hour or so? Wireless is pretty much a requirement for me.

Ive used my Sennheiser IE8's and they seem to work fine, havent tried the mic yet.

I just bought a 2x3.5mm female > 1x3.5mm male adapter for my Beyerdynamic MMX300's, Im hoping they work as using those on the PS4 would be schweet!!

I think the only problem I'm going to run into using my PX5 with the chat cable is I won't be able to turn the party chat sound up independently of the volume control on the PS4. I find that it doesn't let you turn the volume up on audio chat as loud as I would like.

See it's stuff like this that I'd miss. Are there any 'proper' PS4 headsets out yet where you can do all this stuff?

selling my logitech's for cheap on the member's market.

fully compatible with ps4, and up to 3 devices at the same time.

independent charging without the need for console to be turned on.

10 hour charge roughly.

crystal clear voice comms, independent volume controls, mute, on the fly input switching as well.

never need to unplug from one console to the next again.

i think you can do that with my logitech, i can do it with the ps3, and it works with ps4 im told by various internet sources. i haven't used them with my ps4 yet.

i can test later if you want, just in case you missed the above post im selling them on the members market.

WOW Not happy at all. I read from Sony that the Official Wireless Stereo Headset would work out of the box but the Pulse ones wouldn't. Sounds like its the other way round :( Thanks Sony!

Always was going to be the Pulses from what Ive read - only ones I was tempted with before the PS4 came out - now Im waiting to see what others do...

ps3ud0

If you have no PS4 headset gear what's the best general option to go for?

Something like a USB 7.1 headset
A mixamp + headset
Headphones + Mic

My headphones are Denon D2000's, so not amazing, but decent, mainly for listening to music though.

depends on how much your willing to pay tbh.

I don't think the ps4 can output 7.1 through USB, but i've not really looked into that tbh.

mixamp and headset is probably the best option if you want to spend around £200.

i'm selling a logitech wireless setup in the members market, if your looking to buy a quality headset for cheap.

Sounds like a plan to me!

What's the best mixamp? I'm assuming that different companies do different ones, it's not just Astro?

I haven't had any issues with the comfort of them tbh and I had a good few 4/5 hour sessions on the last of us and gta5. But again, it is a personal opinion and different people will find different headsets more or less comfortable than others. You could always try them and if you dont like them dsr them!

Do they completely cover your ears? Or sit on top of them?

Secondly... how big are your ears? :D

Haha, my ears I would say are average although very handsome :D

The cushioned part of the headphones does sit on the ear so i can understand why some would perhaps find this uncomfortable, but as I say i have worn them for many a long sesh and have never considered them uncomfortable. They did feel "different" initially as the senheisers i used previously totally encased the ear, but I got used to them pretty quickly. I believe all of the Creative cans from that range are the same design, so if you can perhaps find a retailer that stocks the tactics and/ or wraths then they might let you try them on to see how they fit. The recons cost me £180ish and I dont regret it at all. I actually wish i had another set so i didn't have to keep swapping them between playstation and pc.

*by them, i mean the actual usb sound card unit that comes with them.

Any of these headsets plug straight into the controller and give me sound and a mic?

I dont want to have to be plugged into the PS4... loses the point of mobility if im restricted by a cord.

picked up a pair of Sennheiser HD 201's today for £10 for the convenience of plugging direct into the controller. I have a pair of TB PX21's but they have a horrible hissing sound when no sound is playing, this may be the PS3 USB port but i havent tried on the PS4 yet as i dont use chat that often. i do have a pair of Pioneer HDJ1000's that i got off my dad that are very good headphones but a bit too tight for any period of time as i like headphones that surround your ears and not sit on them... also having a fat head doesnt help :(

So does the mic chat work over wireless on these too?
