Formula 1 teams are being subjected to new tests of the flexibility of their rear wings following today’s qualifying session for the Qatar Grand Prix.

However, RaceFans understands any teams found not to meet the standards of the test will not be at risk of exclusion from any of the remaining rounds of this season.


The test has been introduced following accusations made by Red Bull about the rear wing used by rival constructor Mercedes. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner yesterday alleged Mercedes’ rear wing exhibited “score marks,” which he suggested indicates they have been flexing at speed. This would allow the team to reduce drag and improve its top speed.

Teams were advised of the new rear wing test ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend. However, they have been told a ‘stay of execution’ will be given should any wing fail to comply with the test between now and the end of the championship in three weeks’ time.

The FIA introduced another new test on rear wing flexibility earlier in the season. Teams were advised of the test prior to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but it was not introduced until a month later. The delayed introduction of the test was to allow time for teams to modify their designs if needed. Red Bull were among the teams who did so.

I don't think the order is going to matter. RB look second best here, so regardless of where Max might start, you'd expect him to finish second.

This will confirm the FIA corruption if Max receives no penalty.
Horner basically saying live on air that they are happier that Mercedes straight line speed is closer to theirs this weekend because they have basically stropped cheating for now. See you next Tuesday Christian.

Once Hamilton puts the Brazil engine back in I suspect we’ll see the straight line speed creep back up in the remaining races.

I dunno why we need to keep having this discussion. All the drivers are selfish, they can't help ignoring safety to try and grab a fraction of a seconds advantage. All the monitoring kit is there for VSC and to automatically disable DRS etc. So automatically trigger a speed limit on the car when it approaches the zone and the driver ignores the flag instructions from race control.

A penalty for Max now will be great for the show!!

I fail to see how they can't give it in this circumstance, and seeing the dynamic between Horner and Wolff is entertaining enough on its own! Never mind Max having to fight through the grid

Max must be given a penalty otherwise a dangerous precedent is set (deja vu?)
It really would be free-for-all otherwise and that only going to result in disaster
