Quad Core PC Vs Xbox 360?

Getting poor frame rates on one particular game, and not knowing whether it is the drivers or incompatibility with the game can be VERY frustrating!
Or updating drivers and finding they have worse performance than the previous ones.... all part of the fun of having a pc i s'pose!!
Yes, ease of use makes console gaming tempting, maybe it wouldn't be so fun without a challenge!

I agree ,at times i feel like pulling my hair out but the pc is a hobby i love to play about with it

There are benefits to owning both, especially if you want a party gaming machine to play since PCs are insanely bad at such a role.
Indeed. I'm actually a little surprised that I'm making this move, but as you say, owning both is best.

I used to feel the same way, once upon a time. I'm a programmer now, so I spend all day trying to get stuff to work. I'd rather not do that in the evening too.

best part id have to say about the pc is that you get to use a keyboard and mouse, no control pad or joystick i have come across works better than a keyboard and mouse combo for FPS games.

Apart from finger and trigger. ;) :p

Some real passionate responses on this thread, feel a bit ashamed now for even considering the xbox 360! Think i'll save my money and wait till the 9800 nvidia cards come out!
Then no doubt a quad core pc with nvidia's next gen card will surely kick even a PS3's ass by then!!

My only problem with pc gaming (have never used consoles), is lazy ports from xbox/playstation to PC, and the unbelievable inefficient/unoptimised coding that many games have which kill the frame rate(some don't even look that good)
Also games released that feel almost unfinished with loads of bugs, waiting for patch after patch to fix these problems.
And why do some PC games have a 30 FPS cap? What is the benefit in that?
(overlord a good example, but was removed in the 1.2 patch, thankfully!)

I dont get what some of you are smoking, the current PC hardware is well ahead of a PS3 even, the cards in them are enhanced versions of 7800 and ATI's R600 (I think it was as, "The Xbox 360 graphics processor, codenamed Xenos, has a 500 Mhz clock speed and 48 shader")

Go back and read why console games are more optimized and why consoles are subsidized.

More framerate is hardly a leap in graphics terms, g92 is just a die shrink and clockspeed bump isn't it?
According to rumours we'll also get X360 style "free-AA" RAM and new AA modes etc.

Not to mention that the number of shader units will probably leap up again. :D

ahaha at all the pc only guys getting uptight...

Fact of the matter is the 360 is a lot more affordable is no where near behind PC games as the older consoles use to be. Ok PC has always been the standard but afraid to tell you the gap has closed for those of us with realistic rigs.

People seem to forget this is a hardware enthusists forum so people on here dont have the "average" spec.

360 = ease of play / huge back catalogue / great future titles on way / 1/4 of the price ;)

imo PC gaming other than the competitive seen is rather rubbish, I mean cs 1.6 and CSS are still played EVERYWHERE! How old are these games? Nothing has rivaled them in all that time, that sums up the state of pc gaming :)

360 huge back catalogue?

Oh yeah that's one thing PC lacks, hmm!

Also stuff has rivaled CS/CSS, the way you word it is like you're making out they are the only games people play, there's loads of popular multiplayer games on PC.

I love how people say 360 = 1/4 of the price, a 360 costs about £280 for a Premium, that's 1/3 the price of my PC actually and you can't do much on a 360 in comparison to PC can you, PC is better value for money overall. Also to get the most out of the 360 you need a monitor/HDTV and they aren't that cheap.

Debatable, you can build a rig to best the Xbox 360 for very little these days. :)

Let's not forget the main advantage of a PC: It does a lot more than just play games/media.

Dual-core and X1950Pro seems average enough to me, and cheap as hell.

Odd, my PC has all those things too.

1/4 of the price ;)
Why must people exaggerate the price of a decent PC?

What card aint unless a new DX is out, but they will have full hardware use of DX10.1 and more steam processors etc.

Considering dx10 so far consists mainly of games with patches that cripple performance im not really fussy about dx 10.1 yet untill they show us what dx 10 can do in terms of better framerate not worse.

HE asked a question, I gave a answer, not debating what DX10 or DX10.1 gives or does not give.

You obv aint played BioShock or MOH-Airbourne as they are fast and smooth in DX10, your stuck back on buggy console ports like Lost Planet or DX9C to DX10 ports like CoJ.

I advise you try both above games and remember demos aint 100%.

This is the PC section so no need for console fanboys, esp one who say PC gaming is dead when thats total opposite due to games like Warcraft etc in last year or so online.

Someone wants to talk about consoles fine but talking BS about facts aint fine.

I said dx10 games out now MAINLY consist of patched games that give crap performance, i own bioshock for the pc and ive had the airborne demo from about an hour after its release. BTW airborne is dx9 not 10. Bioshock while it is classed with dx10 capabilities as most people have shown there is almost zero difference between the dx9 and dx10 options.

Might want to try reading next time kiddo.
