Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Getting Prince Philip vibes from this. I remember posting about Philip being sicker than the palace was telling us. A few weeks later, he was dead.

Now we’re getting repeated reports that the Queen is being told to rest for weeks after being in hospital for tests. I have that same uneasy feeling about the situation

The only uneasy feeling I get from this, is the underlying inclination that selected individuals are opening up a position in this thread. When she does vacate the room, and let's be honest the odds are high that it could have happened before I've even managed to finish this post (God save the edit button!), the individuals in question will kick off an epic internet warrior battle of good v evil, the likes of which we haven't seen since Boris Johnson shook hands in a hospital and decided to book a tent there for a few days back in April 2020.

Mod banhammers and fake tears at the ready - it's gonna be a belter.

This is interesting about her father's lung cancer
The King, a heavy smoker, underwent a left total pneumonectomy in September 1951 for what euphemistically was called "structural abnormalities" of his left lung, but what in reality was a carcinoma. His physicians withheld this diagnosis from him, the public, and the medical profession

There's far less to criticise in comparison to the current blob in chief at N10, so I think it will be fine for the most part. The cynicism can wait until the coronation.

I'm thinking more along the lines of the fake tears that turns to rage at others who don't shed the same said fake tears. If you had to trawl through that BoJo thread you'll see mods threatening to ban anyone that dared to criticise the idiot in any way - the comedy was compounded by the very reason the clown ended up in ICU in the first place.

When the Queen dies, and it will happen, the usual drama queens won't rest until the words "Prince" and "Andrew" are added to the swear filter, with a minimum 6 month banhammer to the head of any person that doesn't star out every ******* letter.

It's just weird.

There's nothing "weird" about it at all, it will be another sign that our British patriotism and nationalism are still alive and well, even if our current monarch isn't.

It'll be another period in the forum's history where good taste and the biting of tongues will be absent, but the British Royal family (and its associated pomp and ceremony, enjoyed the world over), will endure and a new monarch will in time take the throne.

Her passing really ought to mark the point at which this country finally confronts the grief of losing it's identity, an identity that was almost entirely caught up in the aggrandisement of the empire which she is one of the last reminders of.

Will we all get a day off for the funeral?

No.

The closest this country gets to everyone having the day off for anything is Xmas day where only a few hundred thousand people will be working.

Every other holiday is widely disrespected so millions of working people will have any national holiday pass as just another working day.

Can see some people being upset about this. Was at school when Diana was killed. Colleagues that worked at the time said the store opened about 12pm. A couple of shops closed all day! Can see something similar on the day of Queen’s Funeral

I love how you manage to stay in character, it must be quite draining going between accounts. ;)

Anyway, patriotism isn't what I'm criticising - each to their own and all that. What I'm criticising, is the way people pretend to get upset about something and then get even more upset that they can't convince strangers on the internet to get upset. Then there's the melodramatic reaction to any negative comments because apparently the memory of the deceased is completely revised for a period of time directly after the death - like the time Michael Jackson stopped being a paedophile for about 24 hours and then it was back to laughing at the statue outside Craven Cottage afterwards.

It's just weird.

Can see people singing the National Anthem like “God Saved Our Qu…ing” initially as so used to sing Queen.
I think that bit is easier to get right because you know there isn't a Queen any more, but I can see "Send her victorious" being used a few times by mistake.

There will be a public holiday for the Queen's funeral and I suspect fewer people will be working than a standard bank holiday because e.g. segments of the hospitality sector will be expecting less business.
