Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

I don't think it's right to ban them, not when the news corps are making money by filming it, why can't Joe public document what is a significant event in their life
as said earlier in thread will people ever watch it again, let alone have the capability to archive it long term
- would be interesting to see how many minutes of video the average phone user actually has (data footprint)
maybe getting a phone out and filming is some instinct/addiction like smoking a cigarette, or moreover, it's testament to you were not really there in the moment taking it in.
the analogy to smoking also carries over to 3rd party smoking, using them detracts from others experiences - the visual distraction of the gesticulation.

I do think the media has gone a little mad - a bit like when covid was all over the news. There's quite a lot of frenzy being stirred up about this and it's not very balanced in the reporting. There's a lot of "virtue signalling" if that's the right expression that if you're not mourning or taking time off work or holding minutes of silences you're apparently somehow an awful person.

It's a shame as it does leave a bitter undertone as to what should be a more calm time of reflection. But I guess that's what the media like to do. Whip up a storm for no reason.

My wife and I watched live coverage of the cortege down the mall, into Westminster Hall and then the posting of the guard. And it was poignant and sad but also one of those 'proud to be british' moments.
I've walked that route and enjoyed the sights and pomp many times but today was really more emotional than I thought it would be.

And then we went out to mix with the real world which because we're on holiday out of the UK meant queuing behind youngsters in bikinis and thongs at the beach bar.

I suspect most youngsters of our country are viewing the loss of our Queen very differently from my generation and older. For context I'm almost fifty.

Jealous - love looking at youngsters in bikinis and thongs.

The rest of the world must think the entirety of U.K. is braindamaged when they see the comically hyperbolic headlines about how a nation weeps. Ive had American colleagues literally ask me how I’m coping and if I’m ok in the past few days, it makes me cring having everyone think we worship royalty the way North Koreans worship their leaders.
The Americans have no understanding of the UK. Lift in a hotel just outside Reading broke down with myself, another lady and this American chap. He said to me, why not ask my cousin who lives in Scar Bo Rough to have a coffee with you. I live about 160 miles to Scarborough. This other lady was living near Bridgnorth.

What would have happened if the Queen died 2-3 days earlier when the outcome of the new PM was announced?
Charles would have been king still and I imagine Boris would have been allowed to stay on until after the period of Royal mourning.

The instant the monarch dies, the new king/queen takes on the job.

maybe I didn't explain that well - people playing around with their hands in the air man-handling a phone is not lack civility it is just badly brought up and inconsiderate.

Yes - The Queen saved us from further buffoonery/state-embarrassment by Boris - thankyou Maam

It feels like everyone. They all look like clones no matter what road it was you viewed. They all behave the same. Sometimes I miss the days before phones ruled people's lives.

Sen some bits and pieces earlier today, was big ben chiming every 5 minutes or so? Seemed like it on the footage at least.
