Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Spare a thought for poor Phil and Holly. It must be devestating for them.

At first I thought it was unfair that they skipped the queue, how ever if they went to do a job and have had their public reputation damaged and been slated all weekend they have every right to be livid at ITV. Their reputation being unfairly damaged represents the potential for lost earnings for them.

Hmm if only Megan had thought of that angle?

They can use any excuse they want but they got a free pass to walk through. They knew what they were doing. Did any other journalists do that? This Morning isn't exactly cutting edge news.

Watch from 0:47 onwards. What a load of chancers. They are not talking there about reporting but of their own experience.

Phil waited 30 years to come out. He couldn't wait 13 hours in a queue however.

I think you can be there in both a professional capacity as part of your job and discuss your own experiences and feelings lol

That would be a very long post, but in a nutshell medals generally fall into various categories: medals for service, medals for active campaign service, decorations for gallantry, MBE’s etc.

To give you a simple example, here’s my collection:

From left to right:
Campaign medal for Operation Telic : 30 days continual service in Iraq during the 2003-2009 Iraq conflict
Operational Service medal for Afghanistan: 30 days service in Afghanistan
Operational Service medal for Iraq and Syria: 30 days service in the operation against ISIS, with clasp for service in Iraq or Syria
Queens Diamond and Platinum Jubilee medals: 5 years service in the day of each jubilee
RAF Long Service and Good Conduct medal: 15 years service without any serious disciplinary issues

You can find out about every medal that can be awarded here:
…and understand why holders of the Victoria or George cross are held in such high regard.
Much thanks for this :)

I knew the 4bn figure was implausible but this is genuinely surprising. I read that in Australia, part of the commonwealth and broadcast while people were awake and not at work, there was just over 5m viewers or approx 20% of their population. Massive numbers for an overseas event but a million miles from the numbers you'd need to get anywhere near 4bn globally.

So only 40% of UK viewed it, only 20% of Australia viewed it

But we're supposed to believe 50% (most of whom in the likes of China couldn't care for the Queen) of the entire planet viewed it ?

The figures for the UK could be as they are because so many people were actually at the funeral itself. Not forgetting the people who were watching it in social situations like in parks on giant screens etc.

At the end of the day who cares abouts the viewing figures, if you didn't care about the Royals before you still don't now so let those who did care mourn in peace, me personally being from a military family felt extremely proud of the entire event and even more so for our lads who moved Her Majestry to and from numerous locations with great composure.

The total UK figure is higher but yea, to get anywhere near a 50% global average you'd have needed the UK and countries like Australia to have far far higher figures.

Somebody has just plucked this 4bn figure out of the air and it's just spread, seemingly without too many people actually giving it any thought. Had it been held on the weekend then figures would have been much higher - it was held on a working day, during working hours for around half the world's population, that was always going to have a massive impact.

That said it was still a massive event and that's shown by the Australian figures. 20% of a countries population viewing an overseas event is huge.

Yeah still will be massive numbers, just annoying they're running with a made up number, I believe that number came from their projected figures and they've just decided to run with that instead of actually trying to tally everything up, probably be closer to 2.5 to 3billion in reality

My grandad told me this when I was a nipper. He always used to point out that the most important medals were to the left with the least to the right. He was awarded the MBE in 1957 after 22 years service from 1936 to 1958.

He served overseas in India 1937 to 1944 (Mainly Burma), Middle East 1948 and Far East 1955-1958.

The ribbons were also different. From what I remember the military MBE has a different ribbon to the civilian one.

Considerably less if the Australian figure is anything to go by. If they only pulled in 20% then countries at work, asleep and or with no connection to the Queen aren't likely to pull in more.

It was the middle of the night in Australia and 20% of people there watched it, you think that's bad? It was a huge event world wide and was reported globally. We're a small island of 60m people, I'd say that's quite impressive
