Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

They do tend to under-play things - the health of the older Royals has never been something that's really publicly shouted about unless they're in hospital.
Even in the latter days of Philip, unless he was in hospital most of the statements were in response to twitter rumours that he had died (about 5 times)

he had died hadn't he? they resuscitated him at least 3 times shortly before he eventually died. Strange business imho.

My Mum's journey with dementia is drawing to a close, so it's a bit of a turbulent time, emotionally. I could do without another big symbolic figure in life disappearing too, but life is what you get, not what you want.

I started off life as a definite abolitionist. But age does strange things to you... history starts to become a shorter, more tangible thing, something your own increasing lifespan and experience gives you a totally different perspective on. And I started to value continuity and stability far, far more than when I was young and strong and completely forward looking.

When there's more life behind than ahead, and when familiar faces are falling like flies, not forming a reassuring buffer to your own existence, perspectives shift. It's a strange feeling. An unsettling feeling. I have a horrible feeling we'll miss her steady hand on "the British brand" more than we know. Symbolism counts, especially in this increasingly godless, rudderless age.

She's had a good innings and at the age she's at and loss of her life partner it's more about just waiting to die than actually being able to live when poor health due to age begins to limit you, at least she can pass comfortably with family around her when it happens
