Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

To allow the mods some personal time, to derive rules and to keep the knee jerk shock jocks in rein.
Why does this forum even have those sort of vile people?

I'm a member of another forum similar to this one with a identical thread to this and they never shut down for 24 hours and there hasn't been any vile knee jerk idiots there.

I think I know the one your on about and I agree, this forum has some really disrespectful people.

Closing the forum was the most bizarre thing I've come across yet. What was that supposed to achieve? Were we being kept from being glued to the TV screens watching the endless coverage? There are members who aren't even British, why were they being denied access? I'll never understand that move.

So you think the forum should perhaps have a separate section for foreign members, run to different rules? They tried something like that in South Africa and I would imagine you didn't approve of it very much ;)

It was a weird day. I couldn't look away from the news at all. Started the day off not really caring and ended the day feeling the same but when it was announced I did feel a bit strange. I'm in the camp that would gladly put the monarchy in a ship and blast them off towards the sun but as the day went on I realised it wasn't Liz the person I despised but the role she had put upon her. A sort of 'don't hate the player, hate the game' moment.

Above and more importantly than being the Queen she was someone's mother, grandmother and great grandmother and they're all no doubt feeling a sense of loss. I feel for them on that part.

I was hoping this would be a prime moment for people to realise how daft the whole monarchy thing is and start thinking about ending it but it seems some people have just doubled down on it all. Everyone sending out hollow condolences just seems to rub me the wrong way.

At the end she lived an exceptionally full and prosperous life and at the very end, she had her family around her. That's all most of us can ask for with our short times on this rock.

Couldn't talk to people on OCUK for 24 hours out of respect for the queen's passing......

Odd and unnecessary.

Quite. Even the BBC saw sense and let their radio stations get back to some sense of normality the next morning, unlike when Prince Philip died and it turned into rolling news and soundbites for days afterwards.

Another classy post there Chris.
I disagree, why should an event of State and respect for a monarch's death be handled differently because a forum has some foreign members? It would be interesting to see the reaction in some less tolerant countries to such a suggestion. This is a highly sensitive time when many people in this country are in mourning, it's not a time for inflammatory pokes at how we handle State occasions. In fact it's because some will very sadly take advantage to try and test the limits of tolerance at such a time that there have been rashes of deleted posts.

Plan on visiting the tip today and my council has a handy map that has Red, Amber, Green indicators for how busy they are. However, the morons have coloured their entire site black and white as a mark of respect for the Queen. Handy map is now useless. You can luckily still click on the pin and find out the status. Also potentially an accessibility issue for people with poor sight??

I was surprised the forums closed, but in hindsight doing it out of respect, to allow time for people not to let emotions spill over, and give time to sort out admin stuff is OK.

If you can’t step away without angst from the forums for an entire 24 hours may I suggest that doesn’t sound too healthy.

Most people are sad about her death, not necessarily due to her individually, but for what she stood for and held together, now we’ll have the self destructive socialist progressives destroying everything unabated, it’s started already..

When you can’t see anything but the bad in everything and want to project your entitled negative misery so vocally and social media platforms amplify that, it’s not a good thing and it will be the ruination of our wonderful society, something that the Queens passing has really emphasised.

Seriously get a grip of yourself. It really is a case of anyone with a contrarian view must be painted as anti British/socialist/destructive to society. What next, if you haven't got anything good to say (what you agree with) then keep your mouth shut? No one is being disrespectful, they are just voicing opinions.
