Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

The pall bearers near as damn it dropped Churchill's coffin. I have been a pall bearer of just a good solid oak coffin with a robust corpse within and I have great sympathy with their task!
Yep! When we lifted my Dad, my brother and I were terrified the handles would go. They are made of plastic.

Edit: non-queen coffin handles are plastic.

just seen the coffin being carried into where ever it was, those men/woman carrying that..... sod that. I couldn't do it, far too much riding on it.
Sometimes people want to do something as a final gesture. I remember when my mum died there were a few things I insisted on doing for her, despite it hurting tremendously inside, because I wanted to do it for her. I suspect those people were not completely ramdomly selected but chosen from a wider group because they genuinely wanted to do it. But yes I can see your concern.

Damn I've not really been following the events unfolding but I just caught a clip of Charles doing a speech and I actually did well up.
End of an era.
I guess UK gonna be in forced mourning for a week...
Enjoy your holidays :p
Long live the king.

Watching a rerun of the cortege as it travelled through the streets of Edinburgh I could not help but think that, whereas I can fully understand why, so many people were spending so much time trying to get the best shots on their phones that they actually saw very little as it passed them and certainly could not add to the applause that came from others in the crowds.

Of course it's a fake .. it's crass ... after companies had pulled tv adverts, they had shown immediate sensitivity ... (remembering Ratner)

The public will be invited to view the Queen’s coffin in Westminster Hall from Wednesday afternoon to the morning of her funeral on Monday ...
Will security be tight?
Visitors will go through airport-style security and there are tight restrictions on what you can take in, with people allowed just one small bag with one simple opening or zip.
..
The government guidance says people should not film, photograph, use mobile phones or other handheld devices in the security search area or within the Palace of Westminster.

Didn't they say that Truss was officially told at 16:30 that she had died?
Was reading elsewhere today though that it seems Truss did know fairly early that it was "imminent", even before she went into the Commons for the Energy speech

Not sure. My source told me the Queen died before lunch, only Charles and Anne made it to her before she died. Charles and Anne were rushed to her side at 7am that morning once Doctors realised how serious it was and how little time the Queen had left.

I was volunteered (by the undertaker no less) to carry the coffin for both my Gran and Grandad's funeral, it's not something I really wanted to do at either funeral, but I was glad in the end that I did it.

However - I think he might be referring to the fact that the coffin was being carried on live TV and it's the Queen. So, dropping it would be unimaginable...
