Quest 2 accessories - recommendations, reviews etc

About to do a buy on the quest 2, im after abit of advice for people who wear glasses. My wife wears them and i want her to enjoy and experience VR as well. Can she wear her glasses and still wear the headset comfortably?

You might not need to wear glasses in VR. How is her eyesight at a distance of 2 metres? If she can see perfectly at that distance, then she might be ok without glasses in VR.

It can be comfortable to wear glasses in the Quest 2, it depends on how big the frames and lenses are.

BUT, there is a risk you can scratch the lenses if you do, as the glasses can rub against them - even with the supplied glasses spacer, which moves the lenses further away from the face. This can ruin the headset, as the lenses are not replacable.

The two ways around this are 3D printed projector rings, which clip on the lenses and stop glasses hitting them, or prescription lenses (about £60) which clip on the lenses and give excellent vision for the glasses wearer without having to wear glasses.

Of course the issue with prescription lenses is you have to remove them if another user uses the headset but it's very quick and easy to do.

Hmmm i'll have a look at the spacers then, wasn't even aware such thing existed.

Shes blind as a bat mate, i could be stood a meter away from her and it will be a complete blur.

:D:D Well, if she is that bad then she probably has pretty thick glasses. I don't think a spacer is good enough to prevent the glasses from scratching the lenses.

I highly recommend you get prescription lens inserts rather then wearing glasses. Or get a lens protectors as well as the spacer.

Yep, that's exactly it.
Brill thanks!

The Quest 2 comes with a Glasses Spacer. but you can buy a larger one like this

XL Spacer for Oculus™ Quest 2 - VR Cover

Lens protectors sort of look like what you have in your picture, except with see through plastic.
Will have a look at those anyway, i've asked her and did a quick test... and yeah her eye sight is bad lol. She said she could wear contacts but i dont think wearing contacts over long periods of time is good especially in VR?

On another note, i wanna connect it to the PC, is it necessary to buy the official £80+ cable? Any recommendations for a cheap alternative?

Just placed the order for the Quest 2, excited now! haha

Thanks again guys

Those are called 'piano lenses'. The 3D printed rings are a good cheap alternative, but piano lenses do offer a lot better protection, plus you can clean them with normal lens cleaning cloths and wipes. (The Quest's lenses are easily scratched and you shouldn't use chemicals to clean them, though I have found Zeiss lens wipes are ok if used occasionally)

If she can wear contacts then that'd be ideal. Slight possibility of getting dry eyes due to the warmth of the screen and the cooling fan, but I've not heard of any problems using contacts on the Quest 2.

Good to know, hoping it will be comfortable enough for her to wear over long periods of time.

Are the custom straps worth it? Seen in the earlier posts a lot of mention about MVH pro headmount. Quite like the look of it, reminds me of the skeleton frame from a ACH.

No, it's not necessary to spend that much. There are alternatives from Kiwidesign and Anker and other companies that are much cheaper.

But, would suggest you consider using Virtual Desktop and connecting wirelessly using a cheap router dedicated for the Quest 2.

Yeah, custom straps are well worth it. The MVH is a good strap as it's very adjustable. The problem is that it takes a long time to get it fitted properly and it's not ideal if you want to swap with someone else. The Elite Strap is good, but you really need the one with built in Battery as it acts as a counterweight.

I would also recommend getting some replacement facial interfaces like the ones from VR cover.

I've used a couple of cheap USB cables, one A to C and one C to C and they both work OK.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08G81VW8M/

They both work OK, but they are a bit heavy. The official cable is apparently fibre optic with active chippery to send the data down the cable, making it lighter and flexible. So I've read anyway, I was far too tight to spend that much :)

My biggest issue was having to downgrade AMD video drivers to get it to work. Not tried recent ones to see if they fixed that yet.

I've ordered the 2nd one in your links, 4m version as i think 5m is abit overkill.

Yeah me too... didn't fancy spending nearly £100 on a usb cable  wizardry or no wizardry.

Ahh wasn't aware of driver issues... anything i should be aware of with Nvidia drivers?

Nope, with Nvidia you're good.

Apparently the recent AMD drivers had some nasty video encoder latency problem, so the Quest 2 just disconnects when you try and fire up the link.

I got the 4m one as well, but then my study where I beat my sabres etc is quite small.

Good stuff, looking forward to trying it out on some games in my steam library. Theres a few i wish supported it like Insurgency sandstorm but i think there's Oculus alternatives which i'll dig and watch reviews on tonight.

Is Onwards a good shooter? Worth the price?

im blind as a bat without my glasses, (-11 and -10) so thick lenses

I use a glasses spacer with no problems at all (quest 1 and 2)
but i do have the highest "lens number" you can get to make it thin as possible, still thick but not too bad
