Cheers,
You can get a wifi 6 router for about £40. I wouldn't bother comparing it to g2, since g2 cannot do wireless.
Got a link to the £40 wifi 6 router?
It's the honor3 router, linking it might fall foul of competitor linking, they also pop up for sale a bit cheaper sometimes as they come free with certain phones and laptops
Currently £50 on the official site.
Thanks, interesting router for the price! Tempting but think I will go all out on a higher end router for WiFi 6.
If you are going to dedicate the 5ghz to a quest there's really no point, the honor 3 will do everything you need.
If you want to make use of WiFi 6 then all the devices connecting to it need to be WiFi 6 as well, otherwise it falls back on wifi5
Little update on my set up. It seems my AX6000 bridging the Wifi from the downstairs Virgin router works, but it reduces the internet speed by half. My USB Netgear adapter in my PC however, when connecting to the Virgin router downstairs, can get max internet speeds. There's obviously some sort of issue on the router that's causing the constriction, but for now I'll just live with it, and if I need max speeds on my PC (for downloading big games) then I'll just disable the ethernet (connected to the AX6000) and enable my wifi (connected to the Virgin router downstairs). And then switch back when I want to use Virtual Desktop with the Quest 2.
Another update, but I think I've sorted this. I logged into the Virgin router interface and could see that the PC Netgear Wifi adapter (which gets me full internet speed) was connecting to the Virgin hub downstairs via 5ghz... which I thought was odd being in a different room in the house. The AX6000 was bridged to the Virgin hub on 2.4ghz, so I switched that and bridged it by 5ghz. Bada bing, internet speed back to full throttle through the AX6000, so I can now ethernet into that from the PC and get rid of the Netgear adapter
Typical I paid £69 the other day.
Cracking little router though
How is your latency in games now using Virtual Desktop? We recommended connecting using 2.4Ghz because it's best if you only have the Quest 2 on the 5Ghz network. O
YMMV of course, but on that fancy AX6000 Router you have, it will probably be fine.
Hey All, just came across this thread, some good info on here.
Just wondering if anyone who has virtual desktop has also tried ALVR, its a free equivalent? I`ve tried it and it runs fine with steam games (Alyx, Project cars), but getting around 60m/s on a 5ghz wifi. Not sure if virtual desktop may do a better job. Thanks
I spoke too soon. Turns out using WDS means it can bridge on that frequency, but not serve clients at the same time. So I'm snookered. Looks like I'll have to live with it the other way, enabling the USB wifi on my PC when I want to download stuff at max speeds.
Ahh, there is always a catch!! It's been a real adventure for you getting this all up and running
this is why I gave in a year or so ago and drilled holes in walls and pulled up carpet to run a flat ethernet cable from the dining room to the games room
we're planning on moving next year and it'll be the first thing on the list before we move in
