Quest 2, Which WiFi6 Router?

Hi, in my experience it just connects. Have you installed Virtual Desktop and the update from side quest? If you haven't, start with that (on my phone, but easy to find using Google).
Thanks, not even got the Quest yet - just making sure I'm good to go!

Hello All,

I'm unsure regarding Networking and have built up the following (when I say unsure, I mean I'm sure there is a better way of Networking the house). The image shows my Home Network all connected via Cat 7 (I know but it was only slightly more than Cat 6 for what I needed).

Further to the original post, I'd like to use the Quest 2 wirelessly in a different room than the Game PC, I did think I'd be able to connect the Honor 3 router directly to the Sky router and use a repeater, but it seems this is a bad idea, as there is only one cable running between the floors what's the best way to connect the Quest 2 wirelessly to the Game PC? The Game PC is in the sig has no inbuilt WiFi, furthermore the low powered PC acting as a server is on 24/7 running Plex to the whole house etc.

Any idea's?

Plenty advice in this thread and I'm sure someone who knows more than me will jump in and help if I can't.

Just ask away.

Cheers,

So your PC (which you stream from) is plugged into a switch which is plugged into the Sky router and it just works?

I'm super confused, you have it working but you've posted a pic asking how to get it working!?

The pic was how I proposed to set it up (like you, befote I had it) and it does work... Once you try it, you'll be able to get help if you can't get it working...

It looks like you have far too much stuff connected to the network. The first thing to do to speed things up is get rid of the kids. :D

Ok, so I bought Virtual Desktop and installed it, then downloaded the streamer to my PC - I now have access to my PC, but the games won't run in VR mode. I tried No Mans Sky (big screen version seems to be running) and I tried Pavlov VR (running from Steam) and I just get a grey frozen menu screen.

Have you used sidequest to install the latest version?

Thanks, just found this guide and the first link is down until tomorrow - does this look right?

Step 1 - Create A Developer Account Enable Developer Account / Oculus Dashboard; Sorry, this page isn't available. – Oculus...
Step 2 - Install ADB Drivers Download Oculus ADB Drivers here; https://developer.oculus.com/download...
Step 3 - Activate Developer Mode on phone
Step 4 - Connect Quest To PC
Step 5 - Download & Install SideQuest SideQuest (sidequestvr.com)
Step 6 - Sideload Virtual desktop Make sure you have all of your Oculus games in the same folder or it will not show them. Ask for help in the comments!

Not sure step2 is needed? I think this is the guide I used:

https://dashboard.oculus.com looks to work okay for the dashboard, your link has an extra bit on the end?

Thanks, I have sideload installed, not sure what to do now!? Seems that's for installing games onto my Quest but what I want to do is stream games from my PC!?

Edit - ok, I must be a ******* idiot, so I need to find virtual desktop vr patch on sidequest and install it on the Quest 2...but I can't find it on the store!? I bought virtual desktop from the quest store FWIW

Yep, you need to buy virtual desktop through the oculus store as you have done, and install it. Then you need to install the virtual desktop patch through sidequest to be able to play steamvr games through virtual desktop, I'm not sure why you can't find it in sidequest though, if I search for it I can see it.

Ok, I finally found the vr patch - weird but the search function just wasn't working. Anyway, still having the large screen when booting games and after watching a couple of videos one mentioned needing SteamVR - that seems to have done the trick but am experiencing lag so need to have a play

Hi all, sorry I have posted the same question in another thread but they are both related.

I got the Quest 2 for Christmas and as a big hater of cables I have bought the Honor 3 router so I could have an smooth wireless experience.

Unfortunately I get some shuttering while playing Alyx.

My set up is as follow:
My PC is a ryzen 3600x with a 3070.
Honor router connected by cable to the PC (gigabit) and 5ghz exclusively for oculus.

I have tried to play the game with oculus link and runs smooth as anything but VD is not behaving so nicely :(

Any suggestions? I have, tried with different codecs already, and lowering the bitrate to minimum on VD but no joy.

In the Virtual desktop settings there is a performance overlay option.

Try Enabling that and playing the game. It should show you where the problem is.

I've got the honor 3 and having no issues at all.
I see you've dedicated the quest to 5ghz which is needed
You should be seeing 1200mbs connection in VD
Also how far from the router are you ?
You basically need to be in the same room to keep a steady connection
The VD overlay should give you some idea. I'm getting 30ms and below for reference.

The router is on the same room than me, no more than 2m away.
I can see the 1200mbs connection in VD.
Using the VD overlay I can see that my latency fluctuates between 42 and 45, with some spikes fast enough that I can not read (when the shuttering happens)
All the settings on the router were left by default except the dual band option so I can leave 5ghz exclusivity to Oculus.
I have also tried to lower to the minimum all settings on VD and on Alyx but the shuttering persist. :(
