Quest 3 accessories thread

Definitely report back what you find. There's a few of these fan attachments, and it'd be good to hear a first hand experience of whether they make a difference.

First impressions are, overall, reasonable....

the two grey knobs, one seen here....

are used, with ease, to control the depth of the facepad from the lens. This is much easier to change, on the fly, than the AMVR facepad we have.
The build quality seems similar to the AMVR, just "reasonable". Not necessarily fragile, but adequate.
Not sure about the grey colour, but that's ok I suppose.
For now, testing, I have set the fans up as exhausts, similar to the linked video.
If you use the first settings you can hear the fans, quiet and, for me, not annoyingly or intrusive, but it is there. It is a gentle breeze in terms of how much air is felt coming from the fan ports.
I would not wish to use the fans on the second setting unless I was playing a game that had a level of sound to try and mask that.
I guess that would be subjective.
The fitting of the fans, considering we also have a transparent cover on, is a little tight, or best to say that it needs to clip at an angle to then click with the magnets, is decent. Once in place it seems firm enough.
The Velcro PU leather pad is the same size and quality of the AMVR one, exactly. They are interchangeable.

Not sure how effective it will be overall but the depth setting alone is a bonus over the AMVR facepad, if you would want that. And if I return that then this has cost me about six pounds or so difference.

EDIT:

Just reversed the fans. Not had the headset on for long but I am very much aware of a cooled breeze blowing in down over my forehead, with it set on the lowest setting. I think I'll leave them set as intakes for now.

Thanks for the hands on review. I think I'd still be a bit wary of having the fans blowing into the interface and pushing moisture through the electronics.

I'm not sure on how to deal with that situation, then again when it is too warm and I sweat I'm less inclined to wish to use the headset.

Having the fans rotated as they were in that video..... not sure about that either, so guessing that both methods are under consideration.
I did notice that, for me, there is very little ventilation coming into the headset due to the very effective seal the pu leather pad provides and, for me, the almost total zero light that can be seen from around the nose area. If there were angled vents, to block light, in the bottom area of the sides of the face pad frame then that at least would permit air to be pulled in more than I feel it is doing.
Of course, the opposite applies, if air is drawn in and around the face it has to vent somewhere........

Putting he fans aside, the knob control variable methos for depth is much more effective than what AMVR offer.

Just read that VR cover won't be making a facial interface anymore for the Quest 3
Thought it was strange that it was taking them this long to bring one out.
It's a shame as their Quest 2 interface was one of the best ones on the market

Thinking about buying the Kiwi strap, slight dilemma. The non-battery one is 30 quid at the moment, whilst battery closer to 70. Unsure here, but feel I might eventually need a battery. Edit: Well, it seems I was looking at the fancy 'SPC' strap, I am not bothered about a dock. I'd rather charge and keep in a case.

So, can anyone recommend a good case that will fit with the Kiwi straps? Currently using the Q3 box :D. Also are the Kiwi straps good? Or would you recommend a different one?

I got the Kiwi strap for my Quest 2 and loved it.. but for the Quest 3 i've gone for the non battery KKCOBVR halo style strap. (I velcro on a phone charger brick, when I need more power!)

It's taken quite a bit of getting used to after both the Kiwi Quest 2 and the same style but cheaper headstrap that came with my second hand Quest 3.

Lots of fiddling to get it comfortable every time I put it on for the frst couple of weeks, but now it just slips on, and I think I now prefer it over the Kiwi style where a lot of the weight is on your face.

Using the halo strap, the facial interface is not as tight anymore, so it feels a bit more airy, and can even use it with no facial interface at all.

Having said the above, I think either the Kiwi or the KKCOBVR headstraps are a million times better than the strap that comes with it, so you can't really go wrong with either.

Cheers Riggs (and Trig), I'll have a look at that one as well. I find the supplied strap ok compared to the Quest 2 (that used to hurt after a short amount of time). I'm not in a massive rush, so plenty of time to check out some reviews :).

Given what I know now, which granted, isn't much, the battery headstrap is the way to go if you're playing for long periods of time, or if you feel the balance of the headset an issue, if you don't meet either of those criteria, fair enough, but I would absolutely get a new strap that has the ability to flip the headset up, IMHO, that makes more difference than the battery packs extra life or the balance it brings to the headset.
