Quest 3 owners etc

Well, I'm all in on standalone Q3 gaming as from yesterday, sold my 4090 for the £1195 asking price within about an hour listing it. Hope I don't regret it, I've not played much if any pcvr games since around Xmas I think. Not saying I'd never play pcvr again, if something came out on the scale of skyrim, fallout 4 in vr (or gta 6 in vr especially), etc, with a nvidia 5000 series gpu release I'd get back into pcvr.

I'm still playing mainly PCVR. Fallout 4 VR modded is something else.

But it does look like Q3 standalone is getting some seriously good content now.

How much different is the Fallout 4 VR game from that of the std version...? I am still playing the OG version of the game, with around 200 mods added. Is it able to be modided to any degree, assuming visual ones..?
Do the official DLC's apply..?

Thanks

You can mod it almost as much as the standard version. There are a couple of mods, like a new dialogue system, which haven't been ported yet which prevent bigger mods that use them like Fallout London working.

The DLC isn't included but if you have the standard version you can copy it across and it works fine.

I have a minimalist modlist, as I found the larger pre-made ones either didn't work or made the game too much like a survival one.

The mod list I use has full body IK, 2k textures (4k took too long to load), and a bunch of other VR specific improvements, like making VATS into a bullet-time mode.

Had a weird dream about VR last night and decided to just go for it and see how I like it.

Is it right there is an app now for pc link so I only need a USB C cable to get clearer picture? Sounds weird to me as I thought it would plug into the GPU but what do I know.

Yes it can do PCVR, you can either do it through a USB cable, or better yet, through a good quality router for wireless. There is some compression compared to proper wired headsets, but the freedom of wireless is worth it for most people.

Make sure when you setup the headset, you use a referral code, ask a friend if they have a headset already, if not, feel free to DM me and I'll send you mine. It'll get you both £23 store credit to spend on games.

Thanks good to know and bought. The game got a bit buggered for me when they dropped the NG update, in terms of mods.
Whilst I am very much enjoying it again, I use the Mod Manager to switch between the OG and NG version, with mods as needed, it will be interesting to see how this VR version works out.
Having got the DLC's for the original game so I'll see about copying those across.

Point taken on pre-made modlists. I tend to avoid those and add my own conservative, type. If 200 mods is considered conservative, lol.

Is VATS generally a little too awkward to use in VR..?

Thanks. Just looking at some 'must have' accessories type stuff. Though I won't be getting any straps or things for comfort etc until I've tested it out the box to gauge if I want to tweak anything.

I just have the router that came with my Virgin 1GB and my PC is very close to it.

Thanks for the referral tip, please send me a code via DM :)

Personally I've gone cheaper for most the accessories. I bought a little rubberised skull cap to go on the back at first, now upgraded that to a well padded Elite style strap (clamps the headset to your face), and using a elasticated universal powerbank holder for the powerbank on the back to act as a counterweight. Think it was about £15-£20. Halo straps go across your forehead, and more have the headset floating on your face. Different people prefer different styles.

We've got a social gaming group thread here, we normally play Monday evenings, often Walkabout Mini golf (great game), but there's a racing group, and we're getting big numbers now, I'm sure if you fancy a game of something just post on there and someone might be able to join in.

After receiving my Quest 3 on the 7th September i actually got around to having my first proper play of a game (Lego BrickTales) on it last night

How my life has changed as i got older , If this was 25 years ago i would have been ripping the box open the second it arrived and playing on it all night

For me form factor is more important. I feel like whilst the quest 3 size has been refined , you can't quite stick it on when your family is around. Even with Apples attempt with the see through eyes, it is still jarring - you have this box on your face.

We are probably a few generations away - but quest 3 tech in glasses form factor. Wow that would be truly amazing.

It's nice to be part of the journey.

Get a halo strap and play without a facial interface. I do the same with both my Pro and my Q3. Much easier to be aware of what's going on around you, and is still very immersive.

Got mine on Saturday. Just been messing about on various games with the meta+ trial.
Had a brief and unsuccessful try with airlink and followed a quick YT video (after failed airlink attempt) on improving quality etc.

I have a 4090 so wanted to get the most I could out of it but I only have NMS (Which took so long to load. I actually thought it had crashed but yeah no idea why it takes so long in VR mode ) to try it with currently, I assume those settings I tinkered with in debug don't effect it in 'native' mode?

I'll post some more detailed info about the steps I took with airlink in a bid to see whether I can get a decent connection out of it.
