Quest 3 owners etc

Finished Red Matter tonight. Was quite enjoyable, puzzles not too hard but enough to make you think a bit.
Will get the second but probably on Steam, I think I'd always choose that given the option.

I think new headsets will still be shipped with an older stable firmware and update to the latest stable build V69 when the headset is first connected to the interwebs during setup.

Meta have been very good at breaking things in the PTC recently. If you think Quest 3 is bad, the Quest Pro PTC is a disaster - headsets completely broken due to tracking losses.
I wouldn't go anywhere near the PTC these days, after having been on it for ages previously with no issues.

My Q3 is having a bit of an awkward performance issue lately. Whenever I power off, it says there is an update and it tries to do it before powering off. Yet there doesn't seem to be an update.

Also if I leave it plugged into my PC via link cable, the headset won't properly power down. Every couple of seconds the display comes on to show the battery charge level - as if its being switched on and off at the charger continually.

This is normal

You either need to hold button down until it turns off
Or use the restart button

Or if you want to do Or check for updates, go into the settings menu

smaller updates and patches can be incorporated at shutdown when you see the rainbow coloured horizontal bar. If you check in the settings you'll see that revision numbers change for the version you're on.

Following this, for me, reports V69...........

Oh ok, it's v69 then. Should've looked further down at those version numbers. The blog post says to expect v71 next week.
