Quest 3 owners etc

Battery dies way too quick, hopefully some 3rd party battery straps come out soon

Use some hairbands, elasticated strap, velcro cable ties etc, to tie a powerbank onto the back of the headstrap. I bought a £2-3 attachment that's just an elasticated strap basically, put it round the strap and tighten it around the powerbank. Doesn't fall out, but easy enough to slide in and out if I need to replace it. Obviously also means you can use any powerbank.

My head is apparently too thin , it was the case with q2 as well, if I'm in a bright room I see reflection of light from the sides. Thankfully my beard obstructs most of it. Need to add some foam to the sides to block it.

i am not answering your question (sorry) but just a thought...............how slow is slow? i mean if you get 2.5hrs out of it wireless, and if even discharging slowly you get 5 hrs , then maybe it isnt worth worrying about.

are you really likely to do more than a 5hr stint without having a food break or something (at which point you can properly charge).

standalone will hit the battery harder as it is also powering that - fast but thirsty - standalone processor.

Actually PCVR hits it hard, the processor is having to work hard decoding the information.

I've just ordered a USBC 3.2 cable rated for 20Gbps and 5A power. Going to see if it's any good.
The only downside is that the max length is only 3m, which is just about enough for my use.

Does your USBC socket generate that much power though? The cable being rated that high is fine, but I don't think it's common for motherboards to supply it.

I realise it would be a huge effort but I’m kind of annoyed they didn’t port the original version of Asgards wrath so it runs natively on the Quest 3.

I, like many Quest owners I suspect, don’t have a PC capable of running it so it’s not something I can use.

It's a free gift, on a free gift... are you really upset? One day you may well have a PC that can run it.

I guarantee you, if they had somehow managed to port it, they'd absolutely not be giving it away for free.

Hey one last Hail Mary on this. Losing my mind over this very strange thing I’m having. If anyone could give this a go that’d be great. I really can’t be bothered to start a return over this, but I will if I have to

Just tried, as long as I go back to pointing my index finger straight out, it returns to pointing. If I leave my index finger hovering in front of the trigger (not touching), it remains bent as it's following the finger.

As my Quest 3 arrived this morning (finally) does anyone know if it is possible to do the Quest 3 referrals like we did with the Quest 2? I know there was some discussion on it but I didn't notice any consensus opinion. Has anyone done it? I can't remember what the rules are on referrals either. Is it just a PM or was there a specific sub-forum? I'm sure I've seen a link before but I'm clearly blind as a bat as I can't find it now.

Just a PM, I've PM'd you with what is apparently the correct way to get the refferal to work. Don't know if anyone got it working, but I know just activating the q3 with a referral link doesn't work if you already had a q2.

Thinking about getting one of these but I’ve never had a VR headset before. The only thing holding me back is that I know I suffer from motion sickness. I will get motion sickness even from first player games initially, but if I keep playing them it goes away entirely. I can’t read anything in a moving car etc. without feeling super nauseous. Is it a terrible idea to try and get into VR? Anyone else suffer from it and managed to train their brain to push through it?

There's a lot you can do to help yourself. First off, not all games induce bad motion sickness. Anything where you're controlling/riding a vehicle is probably a no-go for you at first. Anything that has you in zero gravity/flying too.

However, many games either don't have movement (table tennis, boxing, beat saber, puzzles) or have a teleport to move option (virtually every first person shooter/puzzler etc). These are far less stressful on the senses. Also snap turning rather than smooth turning.

In addition you can play with a fan blowing towards you to help keep you cool, and maybe try a ginger sweet too.

You also get better at dealing with it, getting your VR legs as time goes on. So with practice you can move onto other things. If you do start to feel sick, stop, don't try and push through. Lots of short experiences, without pushing through, will help you adapt.

Oh, and a higher refresh rate can help too.

Contemplating buying a new game that’s specifically optimised for Quest 3 to see the difference. Annoying walking dead still doesn’t seem to be updated and Asgards wrath isn’t out until December.

Is “Red matter 2” worth buying. I’m not normally interested in puzzle games but the reviews seem really positive. Quite like the look of “Into the Radius” which apparently looks much better on Quest 3.

Any recommendations on the above or other Quest 3 optimised titles which are currently available?

Can't talk for optimization, but I tried Into the Radius on PCVR, and tried pushing through the intro, it really just didn't grab me, I certainly wouldn't recommend it (there again, others rave about it, so it could very much be a taste thing).

Thanks guys, I’ll be mainly playing on PC and from researching online the Q3 appears to be a most recommended for people looking to have an entry into VR. I just want to avoid spending £500 on something that makes me so sick it ends up in the drawer. I guess I could try it and return it if it’s really not for me…

You say you'll mostly be playing PC, but just wait and see :D. Minigolf is probably my most played game, and that's been standalone. PCVR is great, but there's a ton of straight up fun (and fairly cheap) standalone experiences that are awesome. I tend to find the social aspect of VR is one of the biggest draws, which isn't what I expected to be honest.

Seems like it's really power hungry. Need to have a very fast charging power bank to keep up.

I probably need to upgrade what I'm using.

Edit I've not watched, is there something on top of just being thirsty?

The guy in the video didn’t really find a reason other than some games draining battery more than others.
Me I’m using power bank that can deliver 140W from each usb c port and also displays power draw of every single connected device.
What I’m seeing is that it can draw up to 23W when playing games but at times it just doesn’t want to draw enough power and battery level stays the same until I restart it.
Seems like a bug to me.

Could it perhaps be overheating control? Charging a battery that fast adds a lot of heat.

Currently very much enjoying Walkabout Mini Golf, I’m sure it’s even better in multiplayer but will get some practice in first.

I don’t keep my Quest 2 long when it was released but definitely going to keep this, just need a better head strap.
Monday's at 8pm, room code OCUK is where the social game is often. New course this week too.
