Quest 3 owners etc

Have both. The field of view is much better. Think my q2 has good lenses but even then, the pancake lenses clarity is much better. Don't have many games that are upgraded for Q3, but the visuals are better due to the lenses anyway. Mixed reality is amazing for table tennis and the mini game it comes with is a great teaser of what could be.

I've got a skull cap attachment that I took from the q2 and use with the default strap, makes it fine for me. Would be tempted by avr cover facial interface though.

there was not for some reason - i also have not had the £23 referral credit hit my account. I have not had any emails from meta since setting up my quest

Did you already have a previous quest headset on your account? That may have interfered with the referral. Did you follow the referral link when activating and it say congratulations or similar?

Can't help on the AW2, is the headset brand new and unused, and yours the first account on it?

Are you not getting the annoying popups in the headset all the time. There's the option to 'get' but no 'bog off I'm not interested' option.
So it looks like I've got to put up with the notifications until the 24th of Feb when the offer runs out.
Why not just get it, and ignore it once it becomes available?

My 2nd headset seems fine. When I first turned it on I thought it had a dead pixel but a reboot seemed to sort it. One thing I noticed about the 2nd headset is the pass through is so much better than my first headset. Even my other half commented about how clear this new one was.

They've been improving it with updates. Mine looks better than it did on release.

Wow that video was a hard watch. The guys voice made it feel about 40 mins long. Is it really as bad as he was making out?
I stopped after a while. Claw grip, given where the tracking lights are on the controllers, is never going to work well. If anything what he's really showing is how good hand tracking has come along.

I can't say I've had the issues he's had, the main two "quick" games I've done with it are pistol whip and beat saber, I've got good scores on both, including new high scores on beat saber (expert+), now I don't play the camilla tracks, but still, tracking has felt good to me.

I have noticed in walkabout golf some issues though, typically I've realised that I've had long sleeves on (hoody etc) which likely blocks the tracking light at times, it's also going to be tough to hand track, the controller tracking will be limited to a single IR light too, which will mean a lack of depth calculating options.

I liked the rings, and don't think the new design is better as such, but I can't say I've had major issues so far with tracking. Does anyone know if q2 controllers are compatible with the q3?

Yesterday I remembered that the Pre-order of Asgard's Wrath 2 came with some rewards. So I claimed those rewards, one of which was a new environment for the Quest 3.

Did anyone try this new environment out? Well, I did, and to say it's underwhelming is an understatement. It's pathetically bad. Why did they bother releasing such a half hearted attempt?? All the stock environments are far better.

I hope this isn't some kind of omen about the game!!

Yeah, I use it, it's not great. As an area in a game when you're doing stuff, I figure it could be fine. But as just an environment, it's rather dull.

I don't have a Quest 3 so don't know any better but I still don't understand the appeal of mixed reality beyond the novelty. Isn't escapism the main reason we like most entertainment?

Being able to play eleven table tennis in my own room is really handy, I can poke my opponents half of the table out the window. Thrill of the fight is so much more convenient in MR too, no chance of accidentally smashing a wall. The little experience that meta releases with it is a great introduction of just how much fun it can be with the depth sensor and room tracking.

You need to try it in a game. Playing Demeo with the game sitting on the table in your room and posters stuck up on the walls is a pretty good experience. Also, the new game Assassins Creed Nexus uses mixed reality really well as you switch between locations in the game.

Forgot about Demeo, but then I usually play facing the corner of my bedroom, so it's better off in the Demeo room, rather than mixed. I would rather it be in mixed though if playing with a table and some space to move around.

I was in Currys a few days ago, hoped to be able to try the 3, I do have a quest 2, but all on display were non working copies of both headsets.

Looking at them side by side though the 3 headset itself is a lot thinner (40% I believe) than the 2, but taking what seemed a larger facial interface into consideration, the difference didn't seem that great maybe an inch or so.

So as the 3 is a little heavier than the 2, my instincts were, that it probably doesn't feel a great deal more comfortable than the 2 but as couldn't try it on I was none the wiser.

Meta's prices seem to be all over the place though, When I bought the 2 it was £299 a few months later it went up to £399, now on sale for £250, so given time and when eventually they phase the 2 out, I can see the 3 dropping in price, well hoping anyways.

The weight is 90% in the guts of the headset, the facial interfaces need depth to wrap enough of your face to block light. Where the 3 fits so much closer to your face, it's a lot more comfortable, as you don't have as much leverage of the weight that the 2 produces. Also when spinning, as it's closer to your face, there's less momentum pulling at your face/strap.

I only got back into playing VR games since upgrading from Q2 to Q3, so perhaps my memory is failing me, but I've noticed that playing half-life 2 VR mod, which is obviously PCVR, the Q3 battery is outlasting me. I played last night for a couple of hrs straight and the battery was still at circa 50%. I don't recall the Q2 battery lasting that length, but as I say maybe it's jsut dodgy memory.

Wired or wireless? Wireless, that's odd.

Since a few of your guys have experience of both the Quest 3 and Quest pro, if you were offered your choice of one of these headsets coming from a Quest 2, at same price as the Quest 3 £479, which one would you pick?

Maybe a silly question but I'm curious.
:)
Standalone or pcvr?

If I was mostly a pcvr player, then I'd be tempted by the eye tracking if the pro. As it is, I play 95% standalone, which makes the Q3 the easy option

Thinking about dropping some spudloons on one for Christmas, looks like the 20% off at Very might be the best bet?

Hard to do much better, especially if you don't have plans to use that 20% off anywhere else. Make sure you get a referral from a friend (or someone here), to get some free store credit for games. You can also request referrals for games that tend to give 25% off. Though Meta savings when something is on sale, tend to be larger than 25%.
