Underboss
We sell VR headsets, so please edit your post, thanks
I beg to differ mon ami, imo it's looking like a decent upgrade - 30% more resolution, non-fresnel lenses, double the processing power, good quality colour passthrough and a depth sensor, smaller form factor, improved controllers, faster wifi. We'll find out for sure soon enough anywaylooking like a poor upgrade over Quest2 at this point, yes there are improvements but yeah meh
yeah but LCD again, not much news on backlighting, no eye tracking, FoV probably well below MVP (imho), display port tethering doubt it... and its quite a bit more expensive than Q2
In fairness if you are into standalone then ok there is something there and hand tracking is of course a good thing, hopefully there will be a pleasant surprise when we get the full details. We've had better resolution that what Q3 offers for well over 2yrs now.
I might preorder this then if it's not much of an upgrade over the quest 2 back it goes.
I hope for more from Meta cos they could do more if they wanted to, I expect Meta to make choices that are solely for them and if you're onboard with their direction very good, very nice I guess I am not. The things that are important to my VR experience don't feature heavily in their products atmThe Quest 3 isn't for you. I have already explained that. A headset with all that you want will be way over £1000 and that's not the market the Quest 3 is aimed.
The Quest 3 is significantly better than the Quest 2 in the areas that are important to Meta, standalone and passthrough.
If you want a PCVR headset get the Pimax Crystal or the Vive Pro 2 or wait until the next PCVR headset from Valve. Stop expecting a PCVR headset from Meta.

I've also read on Reddit that the guardian is automatic so no having to draw one, and that it recognizes common household items like a sofa. Not only that, the Quest 2 £299 launch price was for 64GB, and adjusting for inflation, that would put it at £360 if it was launched today (I am only comapring launch prices).
So double the storage, plus all the improvements you mentioned, for a 40% price increase seems pretty good to me.

Quest 3 Firmware Clip Shows Depth Sensor 3D Room Meshing
A clip found in Meta's firmware visualizes Quest 3 using it depth sensor to generate a detailed 3D mesh of its environment:www.uploadvr.com
This proves the depth sensor is used for automatic room scanning.
The only thing that really annoys me about the Quest Pro is that they removed the depth sensor, especially as it was marketed as an MR headset!
If it had been included then a) MR might have been actually usable on the Pro and b) it would have gone through a few updates so likely by the time Q3 launched it would have been polished up for mass market use.
Same and I think that's partly because the firmware has been significantly upgraded throughout that time. I don't think Meta get enough credit for this, if only all headsets got user interface, framerate and functional improvements too.I keep forgetting that the Quest 2 is now 3 years old. Doesn’t feel like 3 years since I bought it!
So cheaper than the rumoured £499, good to see. Hope OC has them stocked on day 1 of release.
