Just wondering if these posts on BMWland are concerning your beloved uber reliable high mileage 5 series? here and here and how come you haven't asked the OcUK motors guys their opinions on your high mileage car?

that has to be mr fox :p , should have let us known of the issues, although you will get the haters in lol. dont worry about the shimmy mine has had it for ages and it turned out to be the bearings.

as for gearbox thats an ouch !, Im more than likely needing a whole new cooling system after bleeding the radiator tomorrow I can feel it :(

He's never said it was uber reliable, the guy only just got the thing, although the E39 is known to be reliable relative to the competition, i think sepending the £500 or whatever is the way to go, its what i've spent in the past on my 318i in one go when a few things needed doing and at that time only covered about 90K,

The 530i sports retailed £35K + back in the day, so big bills are going to come sooner or later, thats the used car market, as long as your not paying too much over the life of the car, can afford it and get driving pleasure from it who cares.

exactly its why I cant grumble too much about my recent problems In the year and a bit I have had it nothing went wrong itself, only after getting rammed by a transit did anything go wrong and then it was only a wheel speed sensor.

and mine is 9 :)

yeh m8 np, think fox is kippin got to stick up for the e39 crowd lol not that fox cant infact hes like the ambasador of e39 fanboys :p

Well I cant say I am happy he is having problems with his new car, however he does tend to give us stick about our problems which can be annoying.

Not to be rude but any car with that kind of mileage is bound to have problems as I am sure Fox allowed for. However being a BMW the bills could be hefty especially after the warranty expires.

Shame to hear about fox's problems, but that's pretty poor designing a prop shaft to last 5 years, what's wrong with just a huge chunk of steel:p?

I was going to suggest trying changing the gearbox oil, might help with the smoothness into fith. Then I remembered it's under warranty so who cares, free new stuff for your car:D.

Don't be a tool, I'd imagine posting about problems with a BMW on a BMW specific forum would generate a higher yield than on here. Plus, if he'd posted them on here for advice, he would have to wade through inane drivel like your post wouldn't he? :p

It seems Fox has a stalker. Some of you guys just *love* the witch hunt don't you. I wonder what this thread proves... pretty much nothing - expect maybe he didn't feel he'd get nice or helpful responses from people here - I think he was probably wise not to.

You only get as good as you give :D

Is never vitriolic though or aggressive. A lot of what he says despite disagreeing with him is valid. This is one thing I abhor of these forums at times, is all the "point scoring" that people try and do - frankly it's pathetic.

I have to admit I would never have bought such a high mileage car. It's just a bit of a gamble IMO. But why stalk him around the net and then try to 'show him up' here? If he posted the same thread here he would probably have got one person saying "Not sure m8, maybe post on a BMW forum?" and everyone else would be laying into him... just because it's Fox.

Adj. 1. vitriolicvitriolic - harsh or corrosive in tone; "an acerbic tone piercing otherwise flowery prose"; "a barrage of acid comments"; "her acrid remarks make her many enemies"; "bitter words"; "blistering criticism"; "caustic jokes about political assassination, talk-show hosts and medical ethics"; "a sulfurous denunciation"

I think most of us have our own minds made up.

How sad.

Any way how, the prop shaft really shouldn't be at fault. I think these are really rather rare to ever get problems with, it is always usually the connected donuts/joints that cause the majority of issues.

Fox always does his research before splashing the cash, that is all he is doing now.i'm sure we would be updated us once he knew what he had to do.

It does show how important the warranty is on high spec high milers tho,no warranty and his dream car would have just turned into a nightmare. As it is tho it looks like he'll be getting new gearbox and clutch for a few hundred quid, bargain imo when you're looking at several £k's worth of work
