Questions - Diesel engine and transmission / gearbox reliability circa 2014-2019 -BMW - Mercedes - Audi ( on small hatchback or coupe models)

Bonkers.

£200 being a dealbreaker when you have savings that would cover it. Honestly stop paying your insurance monthly and you'll recoup that in no time :D
did you read my other post? if i pay my insurance annually rather than monthly,, ill save a whopping ...wait for it......£30 for the year, big whoop :P

Hardly worth saving £2.50 a month for

Yeah, I just don’t get this really. Choose what you want and buy a good example.

Now talking about PPFing a fairly ordinary car, yet won’t pay a tiny bit more for a decent one…?

I totally understand having a budget and sticking to it, but it just seems a bit nonsensical in this situation.

I upped my budget from £14,000 to £14500, to £15000, and now im willing to go to £15,800 if they accept my car as a part ex on top of this meaning i would have £16595 to play with

im not going to go any higher,

People have a limit because thats what it is, a limit

What happenened to trying to negotiate these days ? people have become far too soft.

im not going to go higher than my budget sorry

The sales women called me earlier but i was on a work call, im waiting for her to call me back

IMO im not sure they are even being fair, as the car is now showing on BMW used approved as £16,999, , which means they have raised it by £200, as it was 16,799

if they have put the price up , then thats going to be a no from me, although i will give them the benifit of the doubt as it could be a website misreport, although its also showing this on the autotrader website.

Looks like they are messing about with the price, they have raised the price back to £16,999, although id have to chat with them,

yesterday it was £16,799

"We've got someone on the hook for that 4 series we knocked the price down on a couple of days ago"
"Quick, put the price back up, then we'll offer them £200 off when they ask"

That wont work with me,

Typical main dealer nonsense, like i said, ill wait until i get a call back and see what they say

But you've already raised your limit several times :p

Main dealers don't tend to negotiate now. Certainly on cheaper cars, there's not much incentive from their side, they will sell easily enough.

Almost all dealers use an automatic pricing system, so it's probably changed automatically. They will likely honour the price you enquired at.

They would also rather sell the car on finance, in that instance they can offer deposit contributions, part ex contributions, etc - but not always.

Can you go and see the car
if I had scrutinized the wheels on the one I have - not completely scratch free, or had presence of mind to ask if they were going to clean the insides thoroughly, I might have knocked them down
(the replace tyre warranty 36months @ £200 sounded interesting - given debris on our roads)

I think its unfair to raise the price, for me given i registered interest and i spoke to them yesterday, they should honour the price that it was advertised on yesterday

Instant put off if i was a buyer to be honest..., i wish them good luck, but i will see what they say

Point missed - if you'd payed annually all your life you would have saved way more than £200 I suspect.

Im not going to go any higher,
See you again on another couple of years then when you're still trying to buy a car on an unrealistically tight budget.

People have a limit because thats what it is, a limit
Most people normally compromise in some way when they realise their limit is too restrictive for what they want.

What happenened to trying to negotiate these days ? people have become far too soft.
What happened to being realistic these days?
(Certain) People have become far too delusional

So a BMW main dealer are selling it for AutoTraders valuation? Sounds like a bargain when you factor in the strict AUC requirements/warranty/etc.

They won't be trying to pull a fast one, it will be an automatic pricing thing. You are dealing with a company that turn over billions, not some little local dealership selling a £2k Nissan Micra. That's not to say you should blindly trust them - I never do - but you need to relax a bit.

To be honest, as @Armageus has just touched on above - I think you are trying to put yourself off buying it. It's a BMW AUC car, unusual colour, decent enough spec, more or less within budget.

If the condition and everything checks out, it's a very fair deal.

You've also correspondingly upped your requirements, so a bit of a pointless exercise.

What happenened to trying to negotiate these days
There's less/no negotiation now because there's a wealth of information available literally at your finger-or-thumb tip. A 30s search will instantly tell someone if the car is stupidly priced (or in your case, an unrealistic budget for the specimen of car you want).
Nearly all dealers know this and price accordingly, ie the price listed is the price paid OVNO.

Just on the wheel/tyre insurance - I took out a policy with Vertu (my supplying dealer) when I picked up my M340i last November. Think it was around £500 and I get 5 repairs per year, already have one booked in for a couple of weeks and they’re coming to me to sort it. It gets subcontracted out to a big repair firm so I’m confident the standard of repair should be good.

Worth considering if you think you’ll make use of it.
