queue at hollister shop today...

The other thing to factor in is men's fashion in general...

Yes you see young girls in head to toe A&F and Hollister, but you can't say the same for older ones. Let's face it, fashion has grown up around women which is why there are so many shops devoted purely to them. Along with more feminine styles of clothing which may be by a brand, but you wouldn't know as it's not plastered.

Men's fashion is basically a staple of jeans and a t-shirt. We have much less choice available to us and whether you shop at Abercrombie or Topman it's really no different and you will see other people dressed the same. It's not chav, it's just popular.

the wierd shop layout and hype is so that the kids think its "kewl" if you are over 18 this should not matter to you either way really, you are not the target market which is why you dont understand

The price and quality of the actual clothes is pretty good, much better than many other high street retailers

just try to remember that you buy clothes to wear not because of the "image" or lifestyle or any of that crap

The only reason i enter this shop is due to the hot girls that work there, they are required to be fit so you're pretty much guaranteed a hottie when you enter it.

Thing is though A&F's target market in this country is all over the place. In the US they are quite different. The over the top store like here in London is only reserved for their flagship ones, most general run of the mill mall shops in the US are nothing like it, they are much more akin to Gap.

From what I gather, A&F in the US is fairly looked down on as being a bit of a 'preppy' brand. I've worked with a number of fairly young American colleagues and none of them ever wear A&F... yet I have British colleagues old enough to be my Dad who do.

There worst offense in this country though is that all their goods ordered online are still shipped from the US. Meaning if you do order, you have to pay at least £25 in shipping costs for say just a single item. They are also selling these all with full UK VAT on, despite the fact you are paying custom charges included in the shipping and not paying the US price for the goods.

They have deliberately hidden the US website so you can't see the prices... try going with a proxy and you can see them. Before the UK store opened you used to be able to buy goods from them online and pay the US prices.... not anymore!

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a chavvy brand, that's nearly totally reserved (IMO, of course) for the likes of Nike, Adidas, Reebok etc when you see everyday groups of people (chavs) wearing full on tracksuits and trainers of that ilk. There are I suppose other brands which could be considered 'chavvy' like maybe Firetrap, G-Star and some of the other things you would find in somewhere like Bank.

I must admit I normally shop for T-Shirts and stuff at Primark; it's cheap, not too bad quality and if something rips/tears 3 months down the line hey ho, just spend another £4 on a replacement. The only time I will buy a T-Shirt/pair of jeans which is fairly expensive-ish I really have to like it, as I would consider myself a bit of a miser with my cash and don't go willy nilly on £30/35 T-shirts and stuff.

Though I have to admit since the Hollister shop in Bristol opened I do go in there a fair bit to browse and there are a fair few things which I like. The T-shirts are all about £20 which isn't too bad, they do feel quality garments and I'll probably get a couple more to add to the two I got for Christmas. At the end of the day it's all personal preference, I think they're quite a fashionable brand but with all things we'll have to see how long that lasts.

She sounded disinterested in the contracts on offer, it was too much of a chore travelling the 20 miles. Who knows if she'd have got it otherwise but yeah, she does pretty much fit the bill.

I'm not sure how you can say that fits the bill, but I guess it is true what they say ... beauty is in the eye of the beholder

They do actually spray their 'fragrance' in and around the entrance of the store, memory is closely linked with the sense of smell.

I think it's made with ground up children and sweat off some corporate scumbag's hairy back.

Abercrombie does the same. I bought the classic Abercrombie cologne and girls do recognise it. I went to a house party and sat round a bonfire for 30 minutes, came in and all I could smell on me and my friend was smoke. Yet still a girl walked past and asked if I was wearing it.

Girls like a smell which they relate to a load of hot models and expensive clothes.

my personal gripe with holister is the ridiculous sizing of their clothes. Now I'm no means a small guy, i'm 6'4 and fairly built, but i don't struggle to buy clothes from anywhere except holister. I wear size 36 allsaints jeans (and allsaints are generally on the less than generous side of things when it comes to sizes), and large to xl tshirts from most shops, but NOTHING from holister fits me!

it's designed for limp wristers with female frames ;)
