Quick tyre question

Have a watch, then re-think your tyre strategy.

Don't forget, laptimes also translate to tyre performance in other areas, such as braking performance under emergency conditions.

Don't start that again, we will get a load of people telling us they don't drive on a track so this doesn't count.

Personally i think they should line up some puppys and then test tyre braking distances.

Part worns, epic. Nice move buying a car that you can't afford to run.

you say that, but part of me wishes id brought part worn CS3s, because i would have tested them, found them to be not too great on my car, and then swapped em out after finding a supply of Goodyear Eagle F1s...

Update - Been offered 2 Bridgestone tyres and 2 Dunlop tyres all with 5-6m tred

£145. Sounds decent enough? If not, I will spend more of course. Sorry but don't have enough time to watch the above video! Have to go out quickly.

No, buy a set of decent tyres. You have no idea what kind of tyres they are, they are most likely bottom of the range and just aren't worth it.

In 205/45 I'd be looking at one of the following: uniroyal rainsport 2s, Toyo t1r or hankook ventus v12s. That's just from quickly looking on camskill.

Just go online and try Event or Blackcircles and get 4 of the cheapest tyre you can find with a name you have heard of, Falken Toyo whatever.

Its pointless telling this fella to spent 400 quid on tyres because it obviously aint happening is it.

Can't understand the logic of owning a 182 and ruining it with rubbish tyres. You either want a capable performance car or you don't, surely?

This^^

Exactly why i haven't even bothered. Despite us advising him against part worn, crap tyres, he's still been looking for them, as demonstrated in his last post.

Me either, but it just goes to show the 182 has now gone the way of many great cars and fallen into the hands of those who shouldn't be running one.

A real shame. I gathered from his last threads that running one would be a stretch for him and a only a week in he's enquiring about part worn tyres. I don't like being proved right but hey, not my problem is it?

Just a quick suggestion, but 205/45 is an absolute nightmare size to get tyres for. 205/40 is a much cheaper size, haven't noticed much change in ride quality either which is nice.

Paid £52 a corner for Falken FK452's, seem nice so far but waiting for a dry spell to really try them out :)

Wouldn't skimp on the tyres man.

As above really, buy a performance car, buy performance car consumables (tyres, oil etc).

No point half assing it.

Whilst I can understand it frustrates you guys that I made a post suggesting putting budget tyres on a 182, you'll have to step back for two seconds before claiming I don't deserve the car because I can't afford to run it. Not only do I find it offensive, it's as I previously said, judgmental.

I didn't ask because I want to save money, I asked because I genuinely haven't got a clue. I asked because I was hoping all your experience could guide me in the right direction.

You guys are saying that because I know nothing about cars, I don't deserve to own a nice one. Bit harsh IMO

If I was going to have budget tyres fitted on a 182 after all of you guys saying don't, then I agree, the answer is yes, I don't deserve the car. But now I know better, I'm not going to do that.

No one thinks you don't "deserve" a performance car, no one is being judgmental or offensive in any way.

I think people are more concerned with having people driving fast cars around on budget part worn tyres and thus potentially putting themselves and others at risk.

This then leads to insurance premiums going up e.t.c. e.t.c.

But thats all rubbish too isnt it, be honest, i dont give a **** what tyres he buys because he is one in a million people that dont care about tyres, he dosent make a jot of difference either way.

This forum has got a tyre fixation, rightly or wrongly but it has. The best you can hope is he buys a cheap set of half decent tyres.

Then why are you posting in this thread? :p Why did you even look at it? :p

Because im giving him realistic advice that he might just listen to, he might just go and buy a new set of 50 quid a corner tyres.

You can bang on all day about your insurance going up and risk to other road users and 130 quid a corner contis, do you really think he gives a ****?
