R9 290X Owners Thread

What pins you on bout?

if you look at a pcie card, there are two sets of pins,

towards the IO shield there is a small set of pins

and then there is the longer stretch of pins the presumably power the card

so if you look at the back of a mobo and find an 8x pcie lane, it will only have metal pins running half the length of the pcie slot

So this new crossfire technology, what pins does it use to communicate to the other card? because some mobos wont have all the pins available in the pcie slot

and Kaapstad, if you were to put a fourth in your rig, would it then need more pics to talk across? so would it need to be a 16x mobo for quadfire?

additionally, i can imagine some top end motherboards for ln2 benchers or something, making their pcie slots electrically isolated for safety which means that the cards cant talk over pcie

Slot 2 on my RIVE is x8 and I had no problem using slots 1,2 and 3 for trifire, I don't think I will have any problems when I go quadfire using all four slots @ x16/x8/x8/x8

Such a **** take. Two black screens already today.

If i hadn't redeemed that bloody BF4 key (not that i actually got the key for 8 days after i redeemed it, and had already bought a copy by then, so haven't actually used it), i'd have got a TI by now.

Such an, utter, utter **** take. No working machine, only option to go through RMA process which is unlikely to find a problem and will take ages.

If i just got SOME communication from Sapphire or AMD I'd be happy, but totally ignored. It's like they know about the problem but don't want to discuss it...

Yeah that sounds pretty sucky, it seems to be a driver related issue though, at least according to some of the posts I've read. Are you running at stock speeds?

I was getting some black screen errors a few days ago, but then BF4 did some server side patch or something and I played 4 hours solid without a single glitch.

Very sketchy tbh.

Have never ran at anything but stock, and i know my machine is stable.

Unfortunately my Sapphire 290X keeps crashing out of BF4 under stock settings, I then notice the fan going like the clappers.

I'm going to send it back unless there's a quick solution that will help run stable.

Will probably replace with a 780 instead :(

Think I've been lucky also, no black screen/freeze for me, had the odd quite to desktop,
I will note that the stock clocks on mine are 1030 and 1250. Hynix mem

Temps I hit on air in my case is 85ish with a 55% fan speed set. 60hz monitor.
Is everyone thinking that it's related to 120hz monitors then?

Having the same problem atm with the Sapphire R9 290, have done a clean sweep of AMD drivers, used driver cleaner in safe mode, updated the motherboard to the latest bios.

I am hoping that newer drivers will sort this out, the card is at stock, overdrive is not selected, cpu is not overclocked, in fact all is at stock.

No other software is running (Afterburner), l am using Chrome as the default browser to launch the game.

System spec is as follows:

CPU : i7 3770k (Stock)
Mobo : Asus Maximus V Gene.
RAM : CV 1600 32gb (4x8gb)
PSU : BeQuiet L7 730W
OS : W7 P 64bit.
GPU: Sapphire R9 290 (Stock)

All housed in a Corsair 300R, 140mm fan intake and two 120mm blowing onto the GPU from the side panel, Antec 920 as the AIO cooler for the CPU.

This has also happened in 3DMARK Firestrike.

Hoping it will settle down, if not RMA maybe the only solution :(

Are you seeing problems in other games or just BF4 ? Maybe try a different browser to launch it might help maybe I hope :)

Not had much time to test as working till Thursday, once done will give my hole draft of games a blast, Arma 3 works fine, will try different fan profiles (> 47%) to see if that improves it.

(lol just released this is the 290X owners thread)
