Race Driver: Grid

Try these settings with your wheel and it should be much better.

Deadzone - 0%
Steering Sat - 80%
Steering Lin - 0
900 deg - off

Force - on
Force strength - 20%
Force weight - 40%
Effects strength - 20%

if thats in grid options i never noticed its ability to define the deg of rotation, but ill give them a shot at some point

Logitech Wireless Rumblepad 2.

Never had any issues in any games apart from D1RT but more so in GRID.

What problems did you have in DiRT?

I also use a Cordless Rumblepad 2 and found it works very well in dirt. If its the menu navigation, then ditto. But I have never had any problems using the pad to actually play the game.

The missus has just arrived home with my copy of GRID :D:D

Those with twitchy wheels, mess about with linearity before adjusting anything else. It made a huge difference in DiRT, which was setup with lock to lock being about a quarter turn of the wheel. It was almost unplayable. I increased the linearity and it was like a new game.

Toca 3 got the wheel setup bang on IMO. It is perfect. Codemasters should have just taken the control template from that game, and used it on DiRT & GRID.

I've been trying the demo of this game and I'm not a fan. I see it has good points like the graphics and damage, but I don't like the way the cars handle. I'm not really after a really realistic simulation type racer but I don't really like how they drive for some reason.

You can get it to control the menus by assigning keystrokes to the d-pad and buttons with the Logitech Profiler.

You're spot on about TOCA3, it handles great. I don't know why they've changed it for this game.

Wow, not sure you can cope with the steering wheel feeling so light! I have to ramp up the force feedback to 100 or it feels far too floaty

Well i just installed it - bought a 360 wired pad. Got the PC version over the xbox so I can run at a big res.

Only weird thing - just got 1st hired race and picked the 350z one in Japan. Has a weird boost effect kinda like burnout where the screen 'speeds up'. Maybe it was just the BOOOOST!

Runs pretty damn sweet at 2560x1200 - :D

? It supports a PS2 pad just fine, it's what I have been using up until now. You just have to manually map the keys in the custom tab whilst a 360 controller appears as default in the main tab if connected.

Cheers for that, i have the demo but could never get the ps2 pad to work with it.

Has anybody managed to get force feedback working on the xbox 360 wheel in windows yet? I haven't tried it for a while, but last time I did it wasn't enabled.

Cordless rumblepad 2 works fine for me in GRID also. Like others, I have found turning down the sensitivity of the sticks in the profiler essential.

I have not tried a 360 controller, although i am tempted, but from reading on here, the game seems to have been set up for the 360 sticks.

Maybe this is a good thing. If all "Games for windows" were preset & worked perfectly out of the box with a 360 controller, I think this would be fine with the majority of PC gamers. If you decided to use a different controller, you know you will have to spend time setting it up to your tastes, either trhough the game or profiling software.

I dont really think anyone can blame Codemasters because "x" controller does not work perfectly out of the box. There are so many controllers out there, and everybody is different. E.g. When using the wheel, I find it suits me better if I increase the linearity. If my brother uses the wheel, he likes a much lower linearity. Its a personal choice.

:)

I have two problems with that;

1. One of the reasons I use a PC for games is because I am free to choose whichever hardware I want.
2. These controllers have worked flawlessly before in codemasters games and I don't see why they shouldn't now, especially as they worked ok in the demo of the same game!

Totally loving this at the moment. Been playing loads of multiplayer though. The destruction derby tracks are great fun. Mastering the art of nudging to gain that extra place is fun. And cork screwing through the air and landing into another car is a sight to be seen. Being called a noob by some foreign tw@t is rather annoying also. Especially considering the game came out yesterday meaning everyone playing is a noob really.

Thats a good point, the most fun part of the game is the Destruction Derby event, but... within the SP there are is 1 event consisting of just 2 races and that is all. Thats quite disappointing. I can see it being a lot of fun online though. :)

1. Likewise. But what if all the different manufacturers adhered to a certain spec. So all analogue sticks performed almost identical, regardless of manufacturer?
2. Did not realise it was different from the demo to the game. I have only skipped through the thread :o

Codemasters have a habit of messing with controls. I remember the recent brian lara game. Can you believe that you could not map your gamepad!! If you used the profiler, it really got even messier.

As for my "standard" pad idea, I can`t see it happening anyhow. Just one of my late night ideas :D

It's a requirement for being branded a games for windows game that the xbox
controller is supported with no configuration, so not really :p

edit: although I think they can make exceptions for games like sins of a solar empire, where controller support would just be silly. okay this is a quote from microsofts technical docs at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb173456(VS.85).aspx#_1.4:

Games that support gamepad controllers must support the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows using the XInput API. If DirectInput peripherals are also supported, then DirectInput can also be used. However, XInput must be the default API if an Xbox 360 compatible device is used.

so only required if the game supports a controller at-all, which makes sense

is it just me that finds all of the wreckers online (on the 360 at least) are french?

Just same as most peeps will report, D!RT ran like crap for no real reason, at least they have coded this console port a bit better.

Also you will find you would not have had Full Gradual Steering in either game with a Logitech Controler, simple Full lock to Full Lock. (again reports all over from peeps).

The good news is that the FPS drop/stuttering in the Menu's esp is to be looked at on Monday (from their Chief Exec's mouth).

Some other numpty staff member keeps asking for peeps DX-Diag's as if all the issues are the end users and not Codemasters.
