Nice one m8, was in the same race as you a couple of days ago, getting that first win is a great feeling, keep it up!

And don't forget to check out your "Certificate".

I hate this game I am constantly spinning out and finding it hard to control the cars, I swear I go same speed or slightly slower follow almost the same line and I spin out.

*edit*

How have you got into a race on that track? I only seem to be able to find oval in the stock and mx5 cup on laguna seca.

Yeah I am, it works great and feels much much better than stock (1024 steps rather than 256). I am also using another of Leo's cables to connect my old G25 shifter to USB so I can use it with my Porsche wheel, that also works perfectly.

The delivery with leo to the UK is rapid, I ordered on Friday afternoon and received my cable on Saturday morning, and Leo even refunded postage to me because I ordered them seperately.

Hi

Just about to have a go on Iracing tonight could anyone give me some advice please.

The advice is do you brake and gear down before a turn or gear down then brake.

Any info on G27 settings would be great what settings do you use.

I've never drove a car in real life so have no idea about the above.

Cheers In Advance.

Do it all at the same time, if you're new, do all your braking in a straight line and shift down the gears at the same time. Changing down before you brake will blow up engines.

Super satisfied. Just won my first race!

Field wasn't as strong as I'd raced earlier in the day, but I'm really pleased with how consistent I was! Scares me with all this talk of how hard the Skip is to drive, but I'm a long way off getting my license anyway.

Can't stop smiling. I'm such a nerd.

Congrats, I remember my first iRacing win, although it was an oval, oddly don't remember my first road win ¬_¬ :)

Ignore others pace and just go at your own pace, most likely you're being 'too harsh' with your inputs, even just steering too quick can unsettle the cars, you just need to be smooth.

Try taking a few laps at a slow-ish speed (but not ridiculously slow) and just concentrate on hitting various points that you think is 'the right line', that includes being as close to the edge of the track as you can when turning in, apexing (can you ride that curb or do you just want to brush it) and unwinding the steering so that you you just brush the outside of the track on the exit.

Then watch the replay (and/or post it here) and critique your lap, being smooth and on the right line is probably the most important 'technique'

As said you effectively do both at the same time, but braking always comes first or you'll overrev the engine,

To start with I'd say go nice and slowly, start braking before waiting a while downshifting once, wait another short while and down shift again etc etc.

Once you get used to it you basically need to compress that, and you learn how soon/quickly you can downshift, cars like the F1 car it's basically as fast as you can move the paddle, cars like the mx-5 are slower...

Settings for the G25/G27 were posted earlier in this thread (higher up this page I believe, depending on if you have 80 posts per page or not :p

I watched all those driving school videos and did not get my certificate.

I am also dreadful at it :(

I watched all the videos yesterday, and read the Sporting Code. The later I have been credited with but not for watching all the videos.

Perhaps it's because I suck at it too  :D

Congrats,

This reminded me to check and find out you're the guy I met in practice earlier, I did spend a bit of time looking at your laps, hard to really say much as the replay obviously has lag so braking markers etc I can't see, but anyone some brief thoughts:

Are you using auto-clutch, auto-blip btw? if so have you tried without, I believe that saves a few tenths and isn't too hard to do without,

Also revs, what are you shifting up at, skippy doesn't really like going to the redline so I generally shift at 6k, sometimes let it rev higher to avoid an upshift though

Finally one stand out point that seemed to be more than just general confidence/car control was T5 (the first hairpin with a concrete patch), you can go quicker than you were through there, just need to trust that the concrete patch has higher grip, also you have to get the line right (basically keep it tight all through the corner, including entry/exit) as it's like an icerink further out from the kerb.

Also I can't remember anything obvious here but from the second of the hairpins with concrete strips you can take it flat just going through the gears all the way to the final corner, just need to get the line right (late apex for first two corners for a tight exit, up to third around the apex of the first one, and up to 4th just before the last of the 3 and turn in early for that..)

Dunno how much help that'll be... :p

Cheers for the feedback/comments Skill.

Yes to auto clutch but auto blip is off. Can you dry clutch on the skip?

I will try, as you suggest and not red line the poor wee skippy and change up at 6k. Again I'll try that through T5. I manged to get a comfortable setup towards the end of that praccy session and my times were fairly consistent. Mid 1:23's -> low 1:24's which is ok for my lowly division :P

What I would like to ask is your approach and gear selection for T3, the sweeping left hander? I change down to 3rd from memory but not sure if I should be holding 4th...

dry clutch? I use the clutch at the start, then upshifts are just a case of lifting (or hitting the limiter with the gear up button held, but as above I don't think it's good for times to be hitting the limiter). Downshifts are done by just blipping, this is the bit that's harder to get right, if you don't blip 'right' then it won't shift and being in the right gear helps get the car turning in nicely...

T3 I'd say for your pace 3rd is right, I take it in 4th but I'm probably keeping the speed a bit higher such that when I hit the kerb on the exit I'm doing 87/88mph so a bit too high for 3rd.

Sometimes an early up-shift is beneficial too when entering a fast corner. If in a low gear with high revs, you could be pushing too much power to the wheels, but if shifting early, you'll be able to plant your foot and not worry, plus have smooth acceleration out of the corner.

Works in LFS anyway :p

That can work, but the Skippy does like a low-ish gear on turn in, presumably because of the open diff (which also makes the power-on oversteer less of a problem), but at the speeds I'm taking the corner 3rd is too harsh a downshift combined with hitting the limiter before the corner's over really, 4th is harder to get it to turn but quicker after that :)

I'm currently doing driving the skippy and the Jetta, and switching between to two is a nightmare(running the same tracks) Skippy is still more fun

I see that you are in the same division as me,

1 Jason Gordon2 136
2 Simon Woodson 128
3 Don Bowden 127
4 Jason Thiele 115
5 Tyler A. King 111
6 Robert Reeves 107
7 Paul Tibbetts 107
8 Bill McCaw 105
9 Eric Block 105
10 Stuart Craven 105

Had a cracking race last night; started 2nd moved up to 1st, led for 11 laps of 20 then span 3 corners from the finish line grrr. Had a tough battle with the eventual winner for most of those laps.

Frustrating but fun.
