Racing Simulators

nice gwr3850 thank you, some good tips for the G27 and some mods for FFB so will give them a bash in a bit.

Realfeel is recommended for rFactor. Just need to find settings to dial them in. However you saying its a struggle to keep it straight sounds like you need to try reversing the force feedback settings in the game. Not quite sure where that is in rFactor as I haven't played in about a year.

EDIT: Move the force feedback setting to either the - or + scale. E.g. -70% or +70% to see if that is the issue.

I love iracing but a large chunk of the user base (mostly american oval guys) have to be the most mind numbingly dull people to walk this earth.

the general discussion forum is a truly bizarre place full of people who come across as borderline autistic, some of them treat iracing like its their life... its just chronically sad and completely puts me off using the service.

I always knew the "sim racing" community was full of weirdos but iracing takes it to the next level, i die a little inside every time someone refers to themselves as a "sim racer". Who would ever want to put themselves in the same bracket as such a dull joyless community.

Thank god for the england discussion forum, only place where normal people seem to exist...

Disclaimer: despite my endless criticism of iRacing I own everything and paid for a lot of it back when it was more expensive.

Don't kid yourself that you won't be tempted to buy more stuff, because the Skip is very addictive. At the very least buy three tracks at a time and get 10% off. Or 6 for 20% (I think).

Part of learning to cope with iRacing is learning to let go of your money. :-)

Well I stupidly bought the Skippy on its own not realising about the 10% off thing. Now I've just bought Spa, Zandvoort and Mosport :D Need to practice lots for Spa, ready for the 17th.

I would have been up for that had I not been at work :(

Just had my first race in the Skippy round Spa, started in 12th and finished in 7th so I'm quite pleased with that. I think my fastest lap being 2:52.8

My quickest in practise was 2:51.9 but I wanted to finish the race in one piece so was holding back a little. I used far too much fuel as well at 5.2 gallons, I think there was about 2 left in the tank when I finished :D

Also have a question. To get my race participation credit, I have to finish 50% of the amount of laps raced by my division leader. Well he is at 230 laps! Is this correct?

No it's 50% of the leaders laps in each race.

I have been trying to get rFactor to work with my g27 and its being a complete pain, the steering is either very heavy or incredibly light and doesn't really turn the wheels at all!

And now for some reason it gets stuck on full lock one way or the other I can't get the wheel to be central without struggling to hold it in the middle.

I've played rfactor for quite a few years rich and here is some settings i use.

Use these settings on your logitech profiler.

300 degrees rotation - more of a user preferential on this one, the lower degrees the more sensistive it is.
90 % overall effect Strength
0% Spring Effect Strength
0% Damper Effect Strength
0% Centering Spring Strength
but Check the box "Enable Centering Spring in force feedback games

Then in game feedback choose -100 for feedback to start with (i use -80) low and wheel.

Use realfeel but be prepared to switch it on or off as it doesnt always work well with all mods or fwd cars, you can turn it of ingame with rh ctrl and numpad 2.

Go to controls then rates and put speedsensitive, yaw, look ahead, headmovement to 0

The new DRM mod is top class and works well with rFactor defo worth a try.

Also our hothatch mod is a good laugh if you had one of the cars back in the day.

I get so frustrated with iRacing, on that limerock track my best is 1min 2 something people are doing it in a min flat and I am struggling to get that 1 min 2.

Come races I start well and near the front for a few laps then get taken out or I clip the smallest amount of grass and my car just loses it.

Fed up of being taken out so early on.

I also have a bad habit of watching the car in front to much and not the track as much as I do in TT/Quals. Any tips to stop me bumper watching :s

Just got this email

Thanks for helping iRacing by participating in last weekend’s QA Test race. We know that your time is valuable which is why we are sending these $3 credits as a thank you. We also want to apologize for the technical issues experienced during the event. Rest assured we learned a ton from the event and are working hard to improve the service.

Over 1,600 members helped us out (registered for the race or qualified for the race). That is an amazing number! Thanks to each and every one of you for your help in making iRacing an even better place to go online racing.

I've just learnt to accept that there are all ways going to people quicker then me in this sim. That's just the way it is. The top guys are simply not human!

Just keep running laps mate and you will get better and keep your eyes ahead where you want to go. Recently I have started doing this and it really helps.

When I turn into the corner I look at the apex, where I want the car to go. When I hit the apex I then look at the corner exit. I thought I was doing this but actually was not, I was just looking slightly ahead of the my car.

Is it the MX5 you are running?

Just wondering if anyone had been using the McLaren ATLAS Express telemetry system, just started using it/trying to understand it. Also getitng to gripes with the skip barber at spa, can do a few laps without spinning :D.

I had a look at what it was all about but seemed well above my head. I think I need to focus on making consistent laps before I start looking for tenths of seconds in setups.

I'm loving the Skippy at Spa. I think I have run 6 races now and I haven't had a major incident. Roll on Okayama :D

Or perhaps they just don't have a job/life. I've always noticed some people that are 2 - 6 seconds faster in these type of games they seem to be playing them 24/7 more or less.

You just need to learn to run your race rather than concentrate on the pace or anything else of the other drivers, it does take a while to be able to follow closely whilst also running the line you want but it just comes naturally after lots of practice, assuming the other guy is the same pace I'm now quite happy sitting 0.2-0.1s back on F3 for the whole lap which is always good fun :)

Same applies to having a car close behind, at first I would struggle but now I'm getting a lot better at that, again just practice and getting used to it.

Yeah, had a look at ATLAS, way beyond me although quite cool :p

I can't get a decent framerate at Spa, triple monitors is a touch too much for my pc around there, not even sure I'll manage a TT which is what I'm aiming for this season (Division 2 TT, after the first two rounds I was leading by 6 points, guy who was in 2nd has done Spa but 'only' got 80-something so not a massive score)

Okayama is awesome in the skippy, spent far too much of week 13 going around there, which on the plus side should make it a nice easy week, might finally get a decent race or 2 in :p

There's a certain aspect of that, but also that just there are people out there who are just better at sims, eg the true 'Aliens'

Good shout on the ATLAS tech. I didn't realise it was available yet. I've been using the lap Analyser in iSpeed.

If anyone fancies Practice at Okayama tonight in the Skip I'll be chucking up a hosted practice session.

I'll post details later if anyone is interested.
