Racing Simulators

Session Name: OcUK Practice
Session Password: race
Session Start time: 7pm.
Session Duration: 4hrs
Practice Length: 240 mins

I'll bump thread nearer the time as well.

Going to bite the bullet and get a 3 month sub to iRacing and give it a whirl, too many ramming idiots online in Race 07/GTR Evolution.

Looked back through the thread and will use SKILL's email as a referral, someone may as well get something out of me subbing.

I'll post back with my name after I have familiarised myself with the game and UI.

I don't think you'll regret it.

Cheers again unKn0wn for the session, was good to get some laps in to get used to the circuit again, might actually bother to do some races next week :p

Any questions or anything just ask and I'm sure somebody will be able to answer it, oh, and read the sporting code :p

Aye thanks for hosting. had fun. That's the first time I've even turned a wheel on that circuit and I like it, gonna have to do some races this week.

Got my optimal to 1:45.416 still a couple of tenths off Skill in real laptime, iSpeed shows I'm losing a ton of time in the 2 left handers after the hairpin on the back straight, think I got just a tad too much oversteer in my setup.

Thanks again.

Yeah, my optimal is a 45.3, doubt I'll get there though :p the 45.5 I did in the session was a new PB but only the first sector (oddly where I thought I'd messed up T1 quite badly) was a new quickest sector, the rest were slower,

Not sure it'll help but for the two lefts I take the first one a lot slower in than I think I should, if that makes sense, just brake and turn earlier/too much and then power down the hill with very little oversteer, trying to go in deeper on the brakes which feels more natural at first inevitably leads to lots of oversteer and no real acceleration between the two corners,

With the second one I brake/turn-in at the end of the curb on the right (and I try to be on that curb to maximise the available track) then a little bit sideways before using the throttle to just hold the slide through the corner and up onto the curb on the exit (I generally go all the way to the green bit), need to avoid hitting the inside curb though.

Oddly I think those corners, on the few laps I got it right, were some of my strongest corners on the track, kept outbraking myself into the hairpin, T1 I've done considerably better in the past, same with the really slow left then right after the two lefts, done right those are quite fun just managing to get as much throttle on as early as possible whilst not spinning the rears at all (I take it in 1st, done well I'm bouncing off the limiter just before braking for the right)

I did spend countless hours driving around here in week 13 though, lots of practice certainly helps :p

No Prob.

Im baffled as to where SKILL is making 1.5 secs on me though. I have that same line through the two left handers. Although I am losing a load of time under breaking to the hairpin before the two left handers. And advise on where to break? I have been leaving it in 4th, waiting for it to bounce the limiter then braking hard but Im losing .3 - .4ths over my best lap I'm up nearly .5 secs until that point.

I checked out that McLaren ATLAS telemetry after everyone had left last night. WOW. There's a lot of data there. Stress on the chassis, Throttle application in relation to actual acceleration - Wheelspin essentially. You can basically analyse your lap and no exactly where and what your doing wrong. To much Understeer/Oversteer. To much wheelspin, not braking hard enough and braking early. Not carrying enough speed through a turn etc etc. Question is, how serious are you.

EDIT: You'll need to collect a LOT of data and no whats what on the graphs before you can start shedding time of your lap and know everything you've done wrong.

Ok-WheelSpin-ayma was a good crack last night. Thanks for hosting.

Typcial iRacing session on new track, oversteer, understeeer, locked brakes, crashes etc - Love it.

Good driving lads.

You shouldn't be baffled unknown it's called talent :P that's the secret.

How many of you turned up? I've got a PC again, looking for a cheap wheel that will do the trick for the time being, I'd like to get in the next one.

Thanks for hosting last night. Finished my Spa race and came straight over.

Compared with the grip at Spa Okayama felt like a skating rink. Felt more like rally cross than a race track. Set a PB for me so was worth a visit. Cheers!

A few of us turned up. It was a 4hr open practice session so come and go as you please.

EDIT: I've sent you a mail to your trust.

For the hairpin/straight before it you definitely want to be in 5th, I try to shift the skippy up at 6k when it makes sense (eg down the straight), as for braking it's awkward as there are no useful markers, but there is a tower thing on the left, and <something> on the fencing on the right, a combination/position of those is my braking marker, but it's quite late.

not very useful to describe but I think it's just before the tower reaches the edge of my middle monitor that I brake, and start praying, for the corner, but that depends massively on field of view so probably completely different for you, but it's all I've got for there :p

Also, back to the shifting at 6k thing, there is one (sometimes two) points where I don't shift up, these are:

On the exit of T2 I shift to 4th and then I let the revs go just over 6k before I brake to 2nd into T4 (uphill right)

After the two left handers I shift to 4th usually but sometimes I cba, or forget, or just get a crap run onto the straight and leave it in 3rd before shifting to 1st for the tight left at the end

Everywhere else I shift up at 6k rather than letting it rev higher as I think the power tails off quite a lot beyond that.

EDIT: If I remember, and set another reasonable lap, I'll save the replay and post it here if you want

Maybe I'm losing time at T4 and getting a worse exit as I'm in the braking zone when I hit the rev limiter at 6.5k revs.

I checked a lap out in the iSpeed lap analyzer. I'm losing all my time in the last 3 sectors. A vid of that would be great.

Thanks.

I'll see if I can get something sorted tonight, if I get time I'll probably do a TT, see if I can do consecutive 45.5's :p

What games this your playing lads, iracing ?

Yep, iRacing, thread started out about sims in general but the one true sim has risen to the top (*ahem*, slight fanboy alert) :p

Ach its not for me i'll stick with rFactor, i'm not constantly paying for the cars or tracks, rfactor2 will put iracing back in its box ;)

rFactor 2 will be interesting to see, one of my biggest gripes about rFactor was that the base game was a pile of turd in pretty much every respect, it took the 'modding community' to turn it into something half-decent which I just can't be bothered with,

I know that that's also the reason why some people rave about it though, but I just want a nice interface with everything there, not having to go to various sites, download files, put them in the right place, maybe mess with some config files and then get bored before firing up the sim :p

But rFactor 2 as a sim does look to be adding some new stuff which is nice, not sure it'll drag me away from iRacing but we'll see, I just hope there's at least some decent content included, and FF that doesn't need a third-party plugin and further tweaking to work...
