Racing Simulators

You still have to download your iracing mods ;)

There is some cracking mods out for rfactor which can all be found on atleast 2 sites i use, its fairly straight forward to install the mods aswell.

The real feal ffb plugin is pretty good, i never have to adjust it as it feels pretty good how it is on default.

Once you find a league for the type of racing you like, jobs a good one.

The base game mods are rubbish but these were really only a platforum to let the modders loose with, with copyrights and isi not being the largest gaming company in the world, well that was another issue £££.

Part of the rfactor experience is the modding side, which stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Ah, but with iRacing to install new content (which I only need to do every 3 months generally, and that's alongside a big update to the sim as well) it's just 3 mouse clicks, one of those is telling windows 7 to sod off and let the iracing software do what I want, so it is easier :p

Yep, real feel plugin is good, what I was trying to say is that the stock ffb is utterly pants and you *need* that plugin to make it any good, and even with that it does seem that you have to adjust it occasionally (not that that's a huge issue, more that it should be built in, iirc to adjust is a config file when it should be a gui, bit hard for a plugin though?)

I mostly prefer the semi-pickup racing that iRacing offers to league racing (which iRacing offers as well, so you get best of both worlds), but that's just preference,

The modding is head and shoulders above the rest I agree, and there are some good ones out there, but if (like me) the user finds installing/managing mods a huge waste of time and effort then that doesn't help, but again that's just preference.

I try and shift at about 6100, if I need to hold the corner a little bit longer I will sometimes take it to the 6.3k limit but I find as well the power does seem to drop off.

It's a bit like my Focus at 6100 ~ 6300 RPM - all noise no go :)

TT Replay

Just did a TT, not overly successful, my first laps were blighted by off-tracks, 4 in total, almost all of them on the 5th lap of the run :@ (5 consecutive laps needed here)

Anyway, reset, calmed down and went out for a final few laps before I ran out of time, which I've cut to a single replay here, first lap is a rather sedate 46.2, but then it drops into the 45's, best of a 45.414 for a new PB and an average over 5 laps of 45.7xx \o/

On the subject of lap time itself, thought I'd post my splits for fun:

(Sector/Optimal/Best)
S1 24.648 24.822
S2 23.171 23.342
S3 22.647 22.660
S4 34.588 34.588
Lap 1:45.055 1:45.414

So I set a new PB Sector 4 but the rest of the lap was a bit slower,

Now I need to run another at some point and put those last 4 laps with another 45 to get a better TT time :p

Did my first race tonight.

Started 6th finshed 7th, got as high as 4th but didn't think about tyre wear and spun out at about half distance. Still managed to add 11 to my SR, think I might sign up for the 10 'o' clock race.

Really enjoying it.

It's definitely the best sim I've played by far and I have played nearly all the usual suspects apart from LFS and GPL.

I'll add everyone later, add me if you like.

Ach its not for me i'll stick with rFactor, i'm not constantly paying for the cars or tracks, rfactor2 will put iracing back in its box ;)

Hopefully it'll spring nogripracing back in action. The rFactor section is pretty stagnant.

rFactor 2 will be interesting to see, one of my biggest gripes about rFactor was that the base game was a pile of turd in pretty much every respect, it took the 'modding community' to turn it into something half-decent which I just can't be bothered with,

To some degree I feel the same but all the modding/setting up etc pays off.

Thats the thing I love about rFactor, whether I play now or two weeks to a month or so away it's always there. I detest subscriptions with some things.

True indeed. FSONE supplies you nice settings as well.

*nods*

I really love FSONE2009's latest mod, v2. Can't wait for their 2010 version. Plus when the LMT version is ready.

LMT with DRS.

Speaking of F1's has anyone here dabbled in iracing's f1 car? I've heard that the people who run in the events are a bit full on but I've always had a thing for F1 class but don't know if this would be waste of money

The F1 car in iRacing is a completely different beast. It's nothing like the F1 cars in rFactor for example, at least I don't think so. It's definitely worth it. It's just a case of when do you buy it. I have it and very rarely get it out but a mate of mine loves it. I'll put some serious time in when I get to the higher classes. May be an idea to wait and spend the cash on something else for now. Others may disagree though.

Edit: Forgot to mention. It's great fun but a big challenge, a steep learning curve and you'll need big brass ***** to be quick.

It looks and feels a lot quicker when your actually driving.

Yeah, the iRacing F1 car is great/scary to drive, I've got all content and occasionally get bored and drag random cars out for testing, the F1 car moves around more than in any other game I've tried one in, and you have to be so quick to catch it or it'll spit you off into the scenery, great fun and not an impossible challenge but something that definitely takes some work/practice :)

thanks for the advice guys might just stick to getting used to the lotus and star mazda before moving to the F1. I guess there is the fun series but I hardly see people in that.

Thanks for that. Haven't had time to have a proper watch yet. I'll do it later on. I'll try and get one of my replays saved and put it on the tube if you don't mind having a look?

tube as in youtube? be easier if I could just have the replay file (email could work, depending on file size?) as then I can go through the sim, but yeah I don't mind having a look at it :)

Just did a qualifying session around Okayama, aiming to get a 45.4/5 or so, managed to set a 45.455 on the first lap but decide to continue on and get some SR/see if I could improve, get to lap 7, get a bit of a draft down the back straight although I didn't think it was much of one at the time, 1:45.149, either some stunning corners or more of a draft than I realised :p

Thats pretty quick. After about 30 laps practise I think I was running 47's

Is it just me but does this track feel really slippy compared to Spa?

Hmm I had that feeling tonight, so pleased with myself after spending a night on Dirt3 to then jump in a skippy race and hope for the best......2nd place and my fastest lap ever there.....Dirt works wounders

It is quite slippy, didn't run much at spa due to framerate issues so can't compare, but it's definitely slippy, although that makes it more fun T2 is fantastic because you need to hold a slight drift all the way around, and the two really slow corners at the end of the lap really reward throttle control :)
