Radeon 6900 XT

Software engineer, so already well above the national average then? Not everyone is so fortunate my friend. ;)
I know, and it's something I try to take into account when I talk about this stuff. I am very lucky to be in a position to have this, but it's not all luck - I know my stuff, and I've fought for this 4-day week. My previous job ended with a redundancy and my 4-day week was influential (by how much I don't know, admittedly) in me being let go instead of another senior. I don't regret it in hindsight, as the company is a hollow shell of what it once was. It's not all glossy and nice in the software world, even with this, is what I'm saying. :)

6900xt selling out instantly on other sites? Which sites had any stock at all? Even AMD own shop did not even list 6900xt

They deffo did have stock at AMD as others here have got them and also competitors have had as well. Mine is arriving tomorrow from said competitor that you are talking about in your post claiming they had no stock.

If those placeholder prices are £1,099.99 no thanks. TBF on a competitor site they were £1,299 wow. Passed on a lot of 3090's for under £1,600 today might be tempted next time if 6800XT's are going for that price. Not bought an Nvidia card in 10 years so um.

I agree a 3090 is a stupid purchase for me at 1440p but I'll probably keep it 3 to 4 years as that Vram will hold me in good stead and 10,000+ Cuda cores should last a while. Maybe common sense might kick in but looking at the stock shortages of all cards it might be my only chance. Also only about 10% over MSRP. I look at it this way I've got the money and I can't take it with me and I'm 60 now so time is running out.

I'm in the same boat, I have seen OcUK have a fair few 3090s for sale and almost got one today, I don't need it for 1440p but like you said It should keep well for a couple of years, I already spent £450 on a 5800x today, but I'm so unsure if I need to or not, like if I sell mu 3600 and 5700XT I'll pull some cashback, but it just seems impulsive, and I am very impulsive, I'm 35 next month and got my mortgage and plenty of savings, my Mrs is saying buy it why not, I just can't right now lol It's hard to buy or not to buy, that is the question haha, I'm with you brother!

Be wary if the wife says buy it there's always a catch! My wife is a very good amateur archer and wouldn't blink at £2,000 for a new bow. I'm a bit more value/performance type of guy but this time after the last 12 months and all the shortages and crappy launches I might just throw caution to the wind. I can see a 3090 in my future.:D

Haha yes I know, she's on the way back from work now, I have a feeling she wants a new car, hers is not even 4 years old we got it when we got the house, to be honest, I did buy myself a new motorbike in march I've hardly ridden it, yea I think I can see myself buying one in the next day or two but I don't know, what one were you looking at? I know nothing about Nvidia and their AIB partners. But as a trainee software dev, I do like the idea of RT and DLSS, especially If I choose game developing after my degree as the ram may come in handy.

A bit rusty on Nvidia as I've bought Sapphire AIB AMD cards for last 5 gens. Did once own a Palit Card and it was very good. I'm brand Agnostic TBH so whichever is cheapest will get my vote. ;)

I'm kinda amused how the mood has turned from "OMG 2080Ti is soooo overpriced" to "Sure I'll pay way more than that for something that might get shipped in 3 months"

Never expect consistency I guess.

Just bought 3090 for £1,554 and that's me done. Absolutely overpriced but I was going to pay £1,000 for 6800XT, £400+ for 5800 CPU and £449 for XseriesX. Not bothering with the last two so saved a bit of money. Will know tomorrow if it's being shipped and if it's an issue I'll just cancel my order as I paid by credit card. Feeling happy so let's see what tomorrow brings.

\o/ grats mate which AIB?

If you have microsecond reflexes, then you might have stood a chance, otherwise that's definitely a no. :D:p

Nothing to do with human reflexes, it's the latency in your internet. Bit like your 'ping', in a game. All buyers by complete coincidence mange to click buy at the same time, but all the factors between their local internet connections, distances into the main infrastructure, to their ISP's, will vary.

So luck of the internet more than human reflexes. ;)
