Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

this thread is becoming a bit of a roller coaster ride, goes up with excitement and back down to disappointment and round and round we go

Just like it should, it's the most fun part isn't it? :D

I swear i get more enjoyment out of the rampant speculation and then research / trawling through reviews and benches when selecting my purchase than i do when i actually receive it, i reckon the same would remain true for most people on here.

Worst case scenario is its 390 level of perf, best case is its on the heels of the 1070 when OC'd to the nuts.

So really best bet is to aim towards the bottom, then be pleasantly surprised if it exceeds that, dont aim for the top as you will suffer nothing but disappointment.

I was hoping it would be a decent upgrade of my 290, sounds like it probably wont now but its not the end of the world, i'll just dig in and wait for Vega.

i know what you mean, my fury is doing ok but i quite fancy having a tinker with 480 crossfire

As long as it comes out at a reasonable price, doesn't act like a frying pan or sound like a plane taking off, and puts out more performance than my old R9 290@1115 core I'm happy!

Fresh warranty, and new toys to play with, plus 8GB will do me better if I keep the card for a few years.

From the looks of it AMD seems to be pushing DX12's multi adapter instead of Crossfire. Which does seem to work very well if done right.

If game developers does go down the multi GPU route, then I might just grab 2 480s instead.

np :D like I said we should have a lot more information on the cards today from PC gaming and E3 :D

lol wut? ;)

We got zero on the cards from PCgaming yesterday :( other than them telling us the full line up is a 480, 470 and a 460...

Oh and we got to see Doom supposedly running on Zen... no stats or nada though, the whole thing was set sail for fail.

Didn't stop our own government implementing the covert Tempora mass surveillance though?? Think we should be more worried about our own lot than somebody outside our country. It is always easier to blame somebody outside since they are far away, and all this running about from both sides is just deflecting people's attention from more important things which will not change, however the vote goes.

Anyway back to Polaris.

Tempora mass surveillance

lets not even go there along with the fact are own Gov wants to scrap human rights too....

back to Polaris
