Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

The £200 and under gpu market has been stagnant for years now, best nvidia have is the 960 lol, a card that is slower than an 2012 GTX680.

AMD are hopefully going to bring back great performance at the lower end of the market, Nvidia were never going to do it first.

A 390x or FuryX. If my 290 can manage with some tweaking, mainly zero msaa then above can easily.
I promise you neither of those cards are sufficient for 1440p/60fps at High/Ultra in more demanding games. And games certainly wont be getting any less demanding going forward....

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that somebody truly tried to answer that question seriously instead of seeing the point being made.

I find it hilarious that the people recommending buying AMD products based on the company rather than the product's own virtues are the very same people going on about fanboys and bias.

AMD Pro Duo :D:D:D. Get your wallets out.

I like the card but having been an SLI user for a few years, I have no interest in going mGPU in the foreseeable future and single GPU gaming is without question far superior. It is a genuine question and more aimed at those saying to vote with your wallets. Not a dig at anyone but what is an alternative option to NVIDIA'S pricing?

If nVidia were to go under in that way they'd likely take AMD with them - they can bleed money out so much longer than AMD it isn't even funny in a race to the bottom which it would become.

I'm pretty sure nVidia are simply not allowed to do that (laws about price dumping, investor deceit, publicly held company accounting, Nasdaq listing requirements, and all that).

I'll humour you though: say they were allowed to do it (or simply didn't care about breaking the law). For this to work they would need to be able to tank AMD within 3 months because of this: What are internim financial statements?

Basically, they can bleed money in the manner you are describing for up to a quarter, maybe two. At that point they will release their audited quarterly earnings, which will basically read: 'Dear investors, the ship is sinking, run for it!' and its stock will collapse the next day (again, if trading was allowed to occur and NVDA was not halted).

At that point, even a company with the debt levels of AMD could perform a hostile takeover and end this madness.

Just saying...

Wait until the 29th and we may have a clearer answer? Afterall we have no real evidence of performance do we? 480 I mean.
Pricing is irrelevant if what you asked is doable.. As a direct answer to your original question and nothing more

Amd have nothing left on the market that i would buy over £300. It's not hard to see but if this 480 comes in and looks good for £250 or under then they are back in business.

Listen mate, if my 290 can manage it with like I said tweaks, like I don't run MSAA, then what I said can easily manage it.

I have been very surprised just how well my 290 is doing at 1440p.

I had a Fury X and great card (I gave it a very good review) but not quite fast enough at 1440p. So you say turn down settings but when there is a card or two out that doesn't require lowering settings but requires £80 more than I paid for my FX, should I accept that or just put the extra cash and have the pretties plus good frames?

Your call, if you feel that extra £80 is worth the IQ.

I agree and looking forward to the 480 launch but selfishly, I want top end as well.

It will come and hopefully Vega shakes up the market like the 480 is about to do if it's as good as the leaks suggest. I am still on the fence about just how good it's going to be. Fell for the Fury X hype and won't be doing that again in a hurry.
