Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Wafer costs have increased dramatically - the benefit of moving to 14/16nm is more about decreasing power usage and increasing performance rather than increasing the performance per transistor/dollar. Previously all of these metrics would improve but improvements in the latter have stalled.

Doesn't that depend entirely on yields and chip-sizes? Pretty sure AMD have great yields with such low clocks, small chips, and few shaders. There's a reason why they have so many available at launch.

Well we shall see if consumers are more interested in saving £10 from their annual energy bill, or getting more bang for their buck.

I have a feeling bang for buck still reigns supreme in the minds of most consumers, myself included.

Let wait for reviews ....but....

Who wants a second hand, ragged 980 gtx that uses u x2 the juice and gets destroyed in dx12 by 480?

Exactly....... I don't . Good luck with your 980 purchase.

Exit the thread quietly .

Where are all these DX12 games you speak of?
I bought a R9 290X from AMDmatt and a 970 from some on else. Cheap as chips :)

What's the point of this card? you can buy a second hand 980 for £200 now.

Heh, thats like saying, "whats the point of buying a new 980 for £220 when you can buy a year old second hand used 980 for £20 less"

Would you rather a new card or second hand card for £20 difference?

Glorious Gibbo said that the 480 was within a frame of the 390x on Ashes of the Singularity.
And just look how close the 390x is to the higher cards.
