Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Just wondering, lot of talk on performance here, what about visual quality? to my knowledge the RX480 has HDR support, though that requires a monitor to fully support that, would this still not translate into some gains on current monitors out there anyways?

the monitor displays so no matter how good the card is with support, wont help. I suspect soon we start hearing more about HDR monitors coming into channel.
I am waitin for a 4k one myself.

I don't think custom card will be hitting 1500mhz, it's the playstation neo gpu overclocked to the max so there is little headroom left. 1400 and 1450 for good clockers.

Indeed. With most reviews only getting about 1330mhz on the reference version I just cant see clocks of 1500mhz being commonplace at all. I realise extra power connectors may help but look how that hope worked out for the 1070 and 1080....

Yes you might get a few golden samples that can get there but on the whole it already looks fairly close to the limit already for the vast majority of cards.

Thats the thing, not all monitors are the same just like other PC components and not to mention GPUs prior to this did not support HDR output prior or along those lines like this, would the addition not lead to something we can already see even if its not major?

I understand that but it was quickly written off as a non-issue by a lot of people because it "doesn't change the performance so why worry?"

That's how I remember it going pretty quickly. Plus I have nothing to feel persecuted about, I haven't bought a 480.
It was also treated as a huge issue by many others for quite a while.

And there was nothing wrong with not seeing it as a big issue. For the exact reason you just mentioned - advertised/reviewed performance was not misleading or overstated, and that is what I think most people would be most concerned about.

Potential reliability issues are kind of a different thing anyways. And if it turns out to be nothing, then I'm quite sure it will blow over quickly.

You also dont have to own a 480 to do the whole, "Everybody is an Nvidia fanboy and is out to get AMD" nonsense.

I think the only reason 970/390 owners are so fixated with the 480 is because they don't have any other options at their price range - but then what did you expect, higher end cards at launch will always be more expensive, so if you want more performance there's always the 1070 & 1080. There will be no world where you'll have cheaper options for that kind of performance.

Well no, if your moving to new tech you don't exect much of a hike in price for performance, if we start taking that for granted where will it end? we are now at £400 for a mid level card up from £300.
