Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

What the heck is going on with that MSI and missing components? I know sometimes they don't use certain things in designs, but those looked kinda critical to a naive eye.

Once the AIB models are out, it would be nice to have a list of which ones are reference boards, and which ones are custom.
 
I mean, I really think the announcement of all those Xbox titles coming to PC really kind of twisted the picture a bit in terms of the amount of support DX12 is getting in the big picture.

They already started walking it back. Now they say "all games shown at E3 will come to PC" instead of "all games from now on for all time".

GTX 970: 1664 Shaders @ 1550Mhz / 7Ghz @ 256Bit
GTX 1060: 1280 Shaders probably running at 1900Mhz / 8Ghz @ 192Bit

The 970 has 30% more Shaders, if the 1060 with 1280 Shaders is running at 1860Mhz this 970 @ 1550Mhz is 10% faster accounting for the difference in the number of Shaders, 1550Mhz + 20% = 1860Mhz.

At about 1550/8Ghz the 970 is a seriously quick card, thats a 33% overclock on something thats already pretty quick.

Well in this game a 970 with that much of an oc is about 980gtx performance, maybe more, so the 480 is performing miles ahead of it. Probably even getting close to stock 980ti here.

If the 970 at those clock speeds is 15% faster than a 980. And a 980ti is 30% faster than a stock 980. That makes the oc 480 15% faster than a ti at stock in this game. At 1080p anyway.

@ 1550Mhz the 970 is about 15% quicker than a stock 980, i would also question if a 980 can run 1550Mhz 24/7, most good AIB 970's have the same and beefed up 980 PCB's only they use a bit less power so they can get a bit higher, mine for example has the same 8 + 6 Pin WF-OC PCB and cooler as the 980.

As for the 980TI, its about 25% quicker than a stock 980, its probably about 15% short, but the 980TI is a monster clocker too.
 
Think the previous DD XFX cards look quite elegant, but the new logo is just meh. Still, from all the specifications we know so far it looks like it's going to be between Sapphire and PowerColor again. Too bad they have such poor CS, that's the real shame about AMD vendors.
 
Did you not see the XFX DD r9 290? 'twas a looker alright if you ask me. A backplate would have finished it off quite nicely though.

Not a fan of the really plain look. But anyway.

Wonder where that xfx picture is from, hopefully not a test bench for performance testing, because those traces are soooo long on that riser lol.

Plus, the XFX DD coolers always seem to get lame temps from the reviews I've seen. (I haven't really looked that much though I completely admit, as I never really liked the looks).
