Radeon RX480 4GB can be flashed to 8GB version.

Opposed to Nvidia robbing us of vram..cough 970..cough..

Maybe its just a cheeky dig at Nvidia, instead of shortchanging us, theyre giving us double :)

Either that or theyre just covering their backs so when everyone starts saying "OMG 4gb isnt enough anymore" like they did with fury, they can say "ahaaaa" and release a bios update with their latest drivers :)

atiwinflash -f -p 0 bios.bin

Figured out that I need to use command line, will give it a shot but I'm really frightened :( Took my card apart and checked my RAM it has the 8gb serial number on each ram block so I guess it should work..

Put 8gb xxx.rom in the same directory as atiflash.exe and open cmd as administrator and cd to that directory then type atiwinflash -f -p 0 xxx.rom
it should flash your card.

The application I used from tech power up is automated, it has gui.

You just load the prog, then select the bios you want to flash and it does it all for you within Windows. Thank you Tech power up (:

I used cmd prompt and the atiwinflash -f -p 0 bios.bin command worked first time no problems, thanks!

Success :D images below of RAM serial numbers, it's quite easy to take the card apart and check if you want to be 100% sure. Also doom benchmark and GPUZ, am really chuffed :D

This works? haha, back to 6950 days :) or even further the 9800 days.

Congrats to anyone who bought a 4GB card, nice money saver.

Yes at least you can be fairly sure, firstly clock your memory to 2000mhz (2000 x 4 = 8000mhz), if it isn't completely stable at this clock then its not an 8gb card. Also you can count the ram modules from the bottom of the card if you don't have a back plate, one of the stickers won't void your warranty if it's removed, the other one will 'Void if damaged' leave this one on unless you aren't bothered about warrenty. You should be able to count at least 6 ram solder points once that sticker is off, which means more than 4 ram blocks.

Done this, RAM is happy at 2000MHz. No change in temps, noise, or stability.

So tempted to try the BIOS flash now. :D
