Out of curiosity would a 7.2v rc battery pack result in instant death for the thing, I notice that they state it will run fine off 4xAA but iam getting intrigued by making up a case including a fairly beefy battery with the only charging point being a connector for said battery.

Alternatively iam thinking wiring my own 5xAA (1.2v eneloop) pack at which point the issue would become taking it all apart to charge them.

If they're for education I hope they're durable. I helped set up a 400 pc IT centre in my old secondary school last year june. ALL of the monitors have had the button part of the bezels torn off already.

I wonder how long the site will stay up. Going to crash me thinks!

I seriously hope they are prepared for the amount of interest the site will have at 6am tomorrow.

To be fair, these aren't exactly designed for an openly accessible IT centre. They should really be for specific IT/technology classes. Fortunately if they are broken, it's not going to break the budget to replace them, once they are slightly more readily available anyhow.

I imagine this is aimed at university students, not 12 year olds.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you imagined wrong! This primary target for this is high school (GCSE / A-Level) as a means to train more programmers in the UK / worldwide? in a cost effective manner.

University students should have access to much higher calibre software / hardware, at least I hope given the tuition fees paid!

Having said that there is nothing wrong with teaching PI at uni and believe it or now many will find it very challenging to get one up and running without being spoon fed, yes at Uni level

hehehe. It will crash soon after :) was my reaction as soon as I saw the press announcement

They are not designed to be durable, they're designed to be replaceable, .... cheaply! If a student breaks it, 15£ is quite affordable

yeah, I cant see that ending well.

I can sense great frustration in my future of trying to get the thing to work as and be powered as I want it.

Well, seeing as some moron has posted a link to it on HotUKDeals then chances of getting one tomorrow have got a whole lot slimmer. :(

I can also foresee lots of people not realising what they've just bought and subsequently giving the charity bad feedback / negative press.
