For anyone using Openelec 5.0.1

(on any device)

There's a big in the current release that prevents dhcp from being updated after your lease expires. Temporary workaround is to set a static Ip address. (reboot is a very temporary fix :p)

It's been fixed in the source, fix will be in the next release. I'd imagine they will release it pretty sharpish as it's a showstopper..
edit.

More info here..

Your openelec device won't be able to see your network devices or the Internet after a set period of time.

How long depends on your router.

My Pi2 arrived Friday and I've not managed to get it running yet. No HDMI signal, get a solid red light and the green light flashes 4 times and then repeats. Tried a number of power supplies and hdmi cables but I've read that its linked to files on the the micro sd card - Multiple attempts at doing a full format using sd formatter and dropping NOOBS onto the card and the pi still hasn't shown any signs of life from HDMI. Got another sd card coming tomorrow so fingers crossed that sorts it.

I think i had this on my Pi B... use the openelec disk image and use win32 disk imager to write it to the SD card and try using the USB as the storage and SD card as system to run it, miles faster.

Cheers I'll give that a go. Was hoping sd card would arrive today so I could tinker but seems the courier has lost my parcel. Yay for Sunday deliveries

Stuck an order in for a Pi2 and the FLIRC case :D

I'm going to see whether I can start from an OpenELEC install as a base and pull in Limelight-Pi... making it into a mini HTPC which can also stream games from my main PC...

I can't tell from the comments above but is the best performing way with OpenELEC still to use the SD Card to boot but kick the actual install onto a decent USB stick? It seemed to be the best when I last did a re-install on my current pi

my pi 2 is finally up and running, and I must say it's amazing fast!
Don't get me wrong, I'm used to high end computers, workstations and servers and I use my old pi to run all my services for my home network, I was more than happy with the speed for what it did, but this pi 2 is crazy fast.

I would love to see a dual or even quad core with the option to add more memory. I have loads of small ddr/ddr2 memory sodimms I could use.

Try chucking an overclock on it, mine does 1.1ghz easily. Nice free 20%+ boost

Just bought a Pimoroni Ninja starter Set.

Should be good to run Plex rather than my very loud gaming pc. I also wish to keep an image of my Machine on it. What software is available to do that?

Personally for machine images I'd swear by CloneZilla... it's free and just works great. The image will take up whatever the actual used space is on the disk you're imaging (with a little compression to save what it can)...

You'd have to set the pi up with an NFS server or something first and then you'd boot CloneZilla on the machine you want to image from a live CD/USB, then you should be able to direct it to the NFS Share on your pi when it asks where to put the image.

I nearly always do this when I do a first install on a new system - put the OS(es) on how I want, install basic service packs/updates and then before I start actually setting everything up fire up CloneZilla and make a disk image. Acts like a system restore. Last time I did this I'd installed my machine as a Dual boot Windows7 + Linux Mint with the rEFInd boot manager all set up and configured. The disk image is about 10Gb total... not bad

My Pi2 died in the face :(

3 different images, 2 different micro sdcards and still no glorious rainbow square of joy.
It was sketchy to boot, wasn't sure if it wanted to or not.
Then it just stopped booting.

One of the OSMC dev's Pi2 was showing similar symptoms, turned out to be a fault card slot :/

Contacted Farnell this morning to RMA, they are dispatching a replacement today.
Top Notch!

Can anyone recommend a vesa mount case for the Pi 2? My original pi case doesn't work with the new layout :(

Never used Linux, got my new pi with dual boot using berryboot going with openelec and raspbian. Very easy and i'm really impressed with the speed in kodi. Will pick up a wireless KB so I can play with it from TV now.

Linux is a little different to windows xD
