My Pi2 died in the face :(

3 different images, 2 different micro sdcards and still no glorious rainbow square of joy.
It was sketchy to boot, wasn't sure if it wanted to or not.
Then it just stopped booting.

One of the OSMC dev's Pi2 was showing similar symptoms, turned out to be a fault card slot :/
I'm thinking that is what is wrong with mine. No matter what I try, different cables, power supplies, microsd cards, software it just refuses to boot. Can I ask what the LED's were doing? Was it solid red and flashing green?

Running openelec on the Pi2 now and it feels fantastic. Does anyone know what the red/blue flashing icon is on the screen just under the clock?

Does anyone know how to setup a controller to navigate Kodi?

  1. Buy a £4 USB remote from eBay
  2. Plug it in

I picked up an Esynic keyboard with trackpad, which comes with a tiny dongle for wireless control of the Pi.. not going to pick up any awards for style or sophistication but it works great.

Both the green and red LED are on and solid.

Yep.

This applies to the Pi2 aswell.
The B+ has an under voltage detect trigger which results in the power led going off when voltage drops below about 4.65V.
The signal is also available on a gpio line (GPIO35).

Latest firmware update will display a warning symbol in top right of display when this is detected.
It will also disable turbo mode while the warning is displayed to try to reduce the chances of crashing.

I've also added a warning symbol to the existing over-temperature condition (> 85'C), which also disabled turbo mode.

Currently the symbols are:
Red square: over-temperature
Rainbow square: under-voltage

As usual you can override the behaviour in config.txt if you understand the risks:
avoid_warnings=1 removes the warning overlay.
avoid_warnings=2 additionally allows turbo when low-voltage is present.

For testing you can make the temperature warning trigger more easily with "temp_limit=50".
You can probably trigger the under-voltage check by using an insufficient power supply (perhaps USB socket from PC), or a dodgy micro-usb cable from ebay.

Run rpi-update and report back if it behaves as expected.
You will need a B+ to test the under-voltage state. The over-temperature should work on any Pi.

I'd buy a 5v 2a model.
Do not buy the following one from a certain type of rainforest.

"New IT Micro USB International Power Adapter Kit for Raspberry Pi Model B"

So much coil whine I'm sure it will explode.
I returned it the next day.
Zero stars

For the Kodi remote I have always just used the HDMI-CEC support of my TV. Most TVs support it and it means one less remote and Pi USB adapter. Also as already mentioned using a phone/tablet with Yatse also works well.

My order still hasn't arrived from thepithut, ordered a week ago today :(

Generic email response says to wait 14 days until getting back in touch, lame

edit
-Package turned up at work today :D
