Raspberry Pi - $35 Linux computer

Tonight I put openelec 5.0.3 on my pi2. Just used the sdcard with no usb stick.

It absolutely flies! Boots up in 15 seconds to a fully usable state. My largest mkv seeks instantly when doing 10 minute jumps.

This is awesome.

Going to replace my media centre pc with one of these too. Then just use my ps3 as the DVD / Br player

I have an original pi sitting in a drawer and want to do something with it but am a complete novice - how do I go about updating it and installing the kodi prog to use it as an HTPC in my motorhome.

Help from the very basic start would be very appreciated (or a link to a download that will do it would be great as I'm not overly confident in this area!)

I'm even happy to make a donation to someone who could do it for me (and give me instructions so I am not this useless in the future!)

cheers, where will this get me (cant do it tonight as my sd card is borked!)

Anyone got any other uses I could do with it in a motorhome - thought about a satnav or dvr recorder type?

Bought Cyberghost VPN and just cant for the life of me figure it out.. all they have provided me is one file, as far as im aware it needs a certificate etc

GRRRRRR RS have really naff customer service! despite cancelling my order as it would be the 24/2 before I would get it they still send it to me. I recieved it with no dispatch notice and all they can say is sorry and that it must have been a compter glitch, no glitch just stupidity me thinks.

On a plus note I will be setting my pi I got from cpc next time I'm off work.

Need some quick assistance, please. I want to use the Pi 2 for XBMC/Kodi purposes. Am I best to get the all in one kits or buy stuff separately? Clearly I am thinking of keeping costs down. So I found this:

Unless others can recommend alternatives? Thanks.

It's not going to make much difference. I don't like that unnecessarily large remote though.

Here's what it would be separately...

RPi 2 from RS: £27.50 - http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/8326274/ (Now £30)
Power: £6 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231282546146
USB Remote: £4 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370840101675
Micro SD Class 10: £6 (eBay)
HDMI cable: £2 - £4 (eBay)

About £46 in total, not including a case, which you don't really need.

I like the sound of that. Nearly £10 cheaper than from CPC and Rainforest. Will definitely look into those. Thanks.

Out of interest, why are people buying/using usb remotes when there are so many xbmc remote apps for both android and ios?

Been looking at OSMC, might try it tonight. Is there any advantages over OpenELEC?

OSMC is a Debian-Jessie based OS built from the ground up with Kodi slipped ontop.

Openelec, Xbian and Raspbmc are all based on the Raspbian operating system as far as I know.
