Hi guys,

Got a Rasb Pi B+ a few days ago,Put Raspbmc on the 16GB Samsung Micro SD card and all was great, everything worked fine.

Today though i launched the built in web browser in Raspbmc,It installed something then the screen went black and nothing..now im getting no signal to my TV at all.

What ive tried so far -

  • Taking out and re-inserting SD card
  • Removing and plugging HDMI back in (both ends)
  • tried a diffrent HDMI port on TV
  • Tried a diffrent HDMI cable
  • Edited the Config file on the SD card and added -
  • hdmi_force_hotplug=1
  • config_hdmi_boost=4

Nothing seems to be working now,Im getting nothing. :/

Appreciate any help!

Model B+ change log:

More GPIO.
The GPIO header has grown to 40 pins, while retaining the same pinout for the first 26 pins as the Model B.

More USB.
We now have 4 USB 2.0 ports, compared to 2 on the Model B, and better hotplug and overcurrent behaviour.

Micro SD.
The old friction-fit SD card socket has been replaced with a much nicer push-push micro SD version.

Lower power consumption.
By replacing linear regulators with switching ones we’ve reduced power consumption by between 0.5W and 1W.

Better audio.
The audio circuit incorporates a dedicated low-noise power supply.

Neater form factor.
We’ve aligned the USB connectors with the board edge, moved composite video onto the 3.5mm jack, and added four squarely-placed mounting holes.

Reformatted the SD card? No overclocks? Could just have a faulty device.

I can confirm that the analogue audio is 'better', but don't expect too much. It's still pretty poor, even to my old(er) ears. I've ordered a Hifiberry dac+ so hopefully that will provide something more acceptable.

Hi,

have they or are they stopping production on the B boards? I'm thinking of upgrading my OG 256 meg one to the 512 meg one and wondering if I need to get one quickly.

Thanks

We've started buying Pi in at work as PRTG have released a Python probe for Linux. So for £35 (Pi B+ with SD, case, PSU) we can have tiny, lower power remote probes to stick into customer networks to monitor latency, gather SNMP data and more. Everything gets feed back over HTTPs into our PRTG install for graphing and alerting

I've been having problems with my Model B in the last month or so. Before I had no problems and whenever I booted it up in RaspBMC everything would be fine, but now whenever I boot it up 90% of the time the network adapter would refuse to work on it. I tried changing the cables, reinstalling RaspBMC and a few other things and no dice. Has anyone else had a similar issue like this before? Perhaps I should try out OpenElec instead?

Edit: Also does anyone have issues where when they use the remote or any input device that after a while it constantly presses a single button and there's no way of stopping it?

Used to happen to me when I was still running raspbmc... it turned out to be my power supply wasn't delivering quite enough power for it - replaced with a beefier one and it stopped doing that...

I switched to OpenElec in the end anyway and think it performs better

Well I have switched to OpenElec and I don't seem to have the network problems now which is odd. I draw power directly from the TV's USB but I never had this problem for well over 18 months so it was strange that it started happening only recently.

The problem I'm having with OpenElec compared to RaspBMC is that it doesn't have the font necessary to display my Japanese characters - which is quite annoying due to the fact that more than half of my music is Japanese. I might have to go with RaspBMC again and use the external power supply again, possible add a switch for it too.

Well I've been getting the network issue again and this time I am drawing power directly from the plug so I get the feeling that my Model B has developed a fault. :(

Bugger.. looks like I've developed a fault also. my Pi has started failing to boot. The power light is coming on but I get no activity light, not even a blip when first powering up.. Tried several different power adapters with the same issue.

:(

Report the issue on their forums, give them example files to test with.

Time for a Model B+ ;)

I've checked their forums and others have mentioned about unicode support - the straight answer was no, the long answer is because OpenElec is made to be as fast and lean as possible, there will not be any plans for extra font encoding and other things. Basically I'm screwed and will have to stick with RaspBMC.

Having said that though I might just have to purchase a new Pi because of the issues I'm having, or I could get something else that's similar. Wasn't there something similar that had 2GB RAM on board and a quad core CPU... HummingBird I think it was?

Check the SD card, sometimes a corrupted card will do that

SD socket has warped due to heat? Known issue, get a bit of card (cearial box)and cut it to the same shape as the card. Then put them into the SD card slot. The extra thickness will press the SD card onto the pins.

You could try pressing the pins back up but the break very easily.

Copy to a new SD card and hope it's the card and not the socket that's warped.
