RC cars

Yep. You don't mind destroying something that costs £40-50.

Something you've spent hundreds on, and spent weeks working to build - you fly a bit different. :p

Also large helis or planes can be pretty dangerous, either damaging other people's property or worst case scenario injuring or killing someone. I believe insurance is required for flying models.

even on private ground?

I suppose it could take off in to the sky and land on someone miles away! Think RC cars just cut out when out of range but tat's not going to help with a plane/helicopter...

if your thinking of a large model then yep, if you join a club for a small fee you get insurance as well and a place to fly if the clubs legit lol, my local one i tried years ago had a rented field and they had insurance that covered us as well even away from the place if i recall, there was also regular indoor flying nights in a hired sports hall with small scale helis quads and planes :)

if your serious look into flight sims for them like pheonix.

was tempted to get this, seemed cheap and would give an idea of what it's like but the controller doesn't work on win 10

any opinions on Phoenix/Realflight/Aerofly...others? There's Realflight 7.5 with controller for £150. Phoenix and some versions of Realflight work with any transmitter, which i guess could be used for an actual RC model but looks like there's extra buttons/controls on the Realflight controller...

PC simulators are much easier than real life models. Plus real planes can suffer from failures.

Still good practice (learn to change controls when it's approaching, inverted etc)

yeah...plus might be able to gauge if it's something i'd want to do or just a passing fancy!

Got Absolute RC for the iPad but it's too hard to see the plane/heli etc

was hoping there was a decent PC sim i could use with a dual thumbstick joypad but not found anything

hope you find one as the controls are basically that on heli's, left stick up down for throttle and left right to rotate nose and the right stick just banks like strafe right/left and nose down and up.

best thing to do would be find a nearby club and drop by when the guys are flying and ask them, some might even give you a shot if they have a buddy system hook up with them lol

with phoenix you can use your actual transmitter that you fly the models with and i think real flight does the same.

yeah, was thinking that getting a Transmitter that could use on a real RC model would be good but maybe better just getting the dedicated Realflight controller since I have no real idea of what to look for atm...no preferences

I'm in West Lothian btw...was going to go to Marionville Models for a look around today but see they're in Livingston now and also closed today! oh well

ahh same here i used to go there a lot, pretty helpful but they had to move to a bigger place to compete with online places, it is a bit hard to find though, the guy that runs it was saying quads/drones have really dented the heli market :(

i would normally reccomend horizon hobby stuff like spectrum controllers but apparently they have pulled out of europe for some reason and im out of the loop a good bit :(

edit: just been asking dad stuff and he says phoenix is no longer supported :( and that real flight is the only one to go for now but you can only use their controller with it :)

edit : dad says theres 2 clubs in west lothian that we know off , one up the road from bee craigs the linlithgow flying club.

and the club that flys near the pineapple? are the falkirk flying club.

dad says he can give you contacts for both if you want just trust me :)

yeah they don't even sell Helicopters now, not on their website anyway, will speak to them sometime tho

saw this on their site https://www.marionvillemodels.com/p...li-master-flight-simulator?variant=8426973187

which looked alright for £10, but again doesn't work with win 10

no idea but for a tenner that seems way cheap for this hobby, ask rick in the shop :)

you really do to a certain extent get what you pay for in this hobby :)

click my trust button in a non kinky way yeh im drunk lol might have a spare dx6i and since you are close you might have first dibs on it, click my trust button :)

I missed the edit! I can't get the trust button working....not 100% sure what its supposed to do!

But I got Clearview RC sim for £30, works with the 360 pad. Got loads of models, even RC jet planes!
The planes I can control and land usually but the helicopters I always seem to get them in a spin or leaning waaay to one side and can't recover! Good fun tho.
