RC cars

Loving have a track (currently at one end of living room). The hobbyking £34 mini-Qs are going strong while parts ordered for the mini z as a servo gear stripped (that said it drives really nicely).

The mini-Qs are great for the price and actually drive well.

Just googled these, they look good, we have a pretty large downstairs but how durable are they? Are they likely to hurt the baby when he's mincing about or worst break the car if the kids are reckless?!

Where is good to buy them?

Mini Q is available on Hobbyking (also bangood). I have a couple of these: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/1-24-rc-rally-car-red.html

If you have a track no chance of bashing anyone as have edges but that is a bit of a commitment. Plenty fun without. They are quite quick (well very quick for their scale) but I don't think they're really going to hurt someone as they are light. The mini Qs seem really tough. My son is quite into RC, daughter who is just 8 not so much but she is now doing really well with these, doing laps without crashing much. They do cutesy cartoon mini-Q as well.

Another well reviewed one is the WL Toys K989 1:28 SCALE RALLY CAR, also on both those sites. I haven't tried that yet but have ordered. At £30-£40 with radio they are great value. The Mini Z starts at £129 by contrast but very nice scale body and smooth drive.

Great, looking forward to it. Got a shipping note today.

I quite fancy building one of the shinohobby carbon jobbies. Upgraded version of the mini-qs.

Quite fancy getting a lap timer for our track. Getting around it much quicker than when first set it up on Wednesday.

The k989 is great. 3 of us at work have bought them. I drift modded mine. They are excellent fun.

Out of the box the steering is poor at least in terms of turning circle. it's fun not on the track as you can get the backend out really easily but the standard turn is not enough to get around my track. Have changed to the outer hole on the servo arm and that has helped and I can get around now but think I will change receiver so i can use my radio and hopefully get better travel. Have you done steering mods?

Long time ago I did it, so can't fully remember in my mind, I cut the post on the steering hub and glued it closer in. Certainly gained a lot more steering.
Car is at work, so can't take any photos

Any particular reason you would like nitro over electric?

I'm with you on that I've converted one of my nitros and have the parts to do the other. They are a PITA in comparison to electric and no speed advantage anymore. I guess some people like the noise.

Iv never had a nitro rc car when i was a kid. Now iv got my son various cheapy electric cars 15 quid max jobbies.
The kid is into cars and is turning 6. The noise of the nitro cars is the main attraction.

Cheap electric is not the same as decent. Honestly by a decent electric car. A 6 year old and nitro is a recipe for disaster and frustration. Zero benefit massive disbenefit.

As above, a nitro car with a young lad is a recipe for disappointment, frustration and eventual loss of interest. Play the angle that he needs to work up to it, if he's still interested after a few months of running a leccy car, then go for it.

Come on guys my heart is set on a nitro machine. Kid will drive it around in the garden and i can help teach him how to work on it and maintain it.
Just need recommendations for what to get and where from. Needs to be able to drive on grass in garden.

Get yourself an arrma granite blx, wouldn't even consider nitro if you want to keep it simple for the kid, there's still plenty to work on :)

All these electric noobs lol.

Unfortunately they don't make many small nitro cars any more. The Carnage nt is probably the cheapest option. Would recommend heating the engine with a heat gun for a min or so before cold starts or breaking in as they can be hard to get going from cold. Other than that, once its warm it should fire right up and go. Also make sure the fail safe work before you run it as they sometimes come with it set to full throttle from the factory XD
