RC cars

I used to run a savage 25 nitro years ago, then a 1/5th scale 2 stroke (still have that running) and now an arrma outcast 6s, nothing comes close to the 6s outcast it's an animal!

Electric is the way forward for sure, just learn good lipo safety and your golden.

Hi all. I don't know much about rc vehicles but what would age would you say you can indroduce kids to them. I'm thinking they can chase around the park/garden and start to learn basic control? Budget wise perhaps £50 but upto £100, any suggestions? Wouldnt be left alone with if small parts etc. Thanks

Come on guys my heart is set on a nitro machine. Kid will drive it around in the garden and i can help teach him how to work on it and maintain it.
Just need recommendations for what to get and where from. Needs to be able to drive on grass in garden.

i hope you do not live in a street..... i only ran nitro ones in my street to test something and i have had abusive neighbours that are normally fine come out and shout so much crap because of the noise on nitro ones, had some come out and shout about leccy ones... as well though.

you will not get a decent nitro or leccy for 100 quid.

https://www.rcscrapyard.net/uk/hobao-hyper-mini-st.htm this fits your requirments apart from the price, it cost us about 200 or 150 if i remember correctly and i don't know if they make it any more. im out the loop and drunk.

hobao mini st is ******* nuts and takes a beating, it also takes most normal 1/10th wheels and tires.

what ever you decide there will be extra cost, a nitro will blow out the glow plugs and you will need a ignitor for them then a charger and other things like tools, leccies go faster and have less trouble but then u need a decent charfger etc and batterys.

rc models are a complete money sink no matter what one you choose.

drunk edit 2 :

oh pro tip super glue the tyres on the rim and thread lock any thing that is not connected to plastic eg drive shaft grub screws etc

^^ They look amazing. Have you modified them from the default kit you'd buy?

Now my lad is old enough I really want a new buggy, I had a FTX Carnage 1/10 4WD a couple of years back but was disappointed with the build quality. I went through two of them, both times the motor went after driving in light dew on grass from the evening prior!

Are there any that are built better to protect in winter weather?

Edit: Just googled the carnage and it says "now with weather proof features" so I'm guessing this answers my question..

Finally finished my 3d printed Open RC. Runs well. 3D printed tires are not very grippy but cool process to get them to work well and be squishy.

Not sure how many RC racers are on OCUK but if anyone is interested, I'm organising a RC race weekend in Kiev in May 2020.

There is a fantastic astro track in Kiev and we've arranged a 2 day race weekend.

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will add your name to the FB group. :)

Will you be running timing and where is that??

Google Eco-Track Kiev. They have a great astro track there. I took my B74 in October. Good bunch of guys. They have amb system so will be timed. Hoping to run a 2 day event. Also plan to take a day trip to Chernobyl exclusion zone on Monday and walk around Kiev Tuesday for those that stay longer.

As a kid I got an RC car for Christmas, it wouldn't have been a really expensive one but it didn't half have some speed to it!

My lad got one for Christmas yesterday, probably cost £50 which isn't expensive for one but this thing barely has enough oomph to get across the carpet and that's after its been on charge for 12hrs plus!

It's junk!

I bought a cheapie one for my lad (£35 stunt one off Amazon) as one of his xmas presents. It is cheaply made but I went for a 4wd one and it is blinking fast across a thick carpet.

Sounds similar to the one he got, was also off Amazon, can get it in blue or red I think? Maybe I just got a duff one

Premade cheap cars have always been a mixed bag of junk. I was lucky enough as a kid to get a Tamiya Falcon for Christmas and Birthday, and you can get similar kits now. My son has the Tamiya Rising Fighter which is basically a Hornet. And with these kits half the fun is building them.

What sort of cost for something even remotely decent? I wouldn't mind doing something like that with him to be honest.
