RC cars

Well so far so good, nothing broken, this little thing can handle a proper bashing although as others have mentioned its a little too fast for my lad. If he concentrates its ok but if not it can go flying off in all directions. :D

However problem solved, I've managed to pick up a a959 (non B with the 380 motor) from someone selling them locally for £30 new. It's perfect for him, just that little bit slower that makes it more controllable. Also with them being the same base model parts are interchangeable and spares are super cheap.

hehe sweet nice one :)

I did notice it was brushed, brushless would be better, if there’s some better recommendations for around 250-300 please do advise :)

Team associated mt10 £249 on modelsport? Unless you don't famcy a monster truck but it's very cheap for want you get

Hey folks. Any ideas on a decent beginner RC buggy to get? My partners son has a bit of the lockdown blues so figured getting something that could be tinkered with and take to the local park to race around on the grass and tarmac would be fun for him (and me). Used to have a petrol 306 rally car back in the day, but I was rather young and my father did most of the leg work.

Is electric the way to go these days? Want something with a bit of speed, preferably under 150 in case he doesn’t enjoy it as much as I think he will.

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/corall...truck-1-10-brushed-rtr/rc-car-products/444076 got one of these and some guy walking past said it was fast, more torqy than fast with wheelies etc and handles grass easy, i run it on a 2s 5000 mah lipo.

if youre kid gets bored you wont :) does not come with battery or charger though.

https://www.modelsport.co.uk/corall...ruck-1-10-bushless-rtr/rc-car-products/444072 the brushless one.

i have had shots of dads one and it is a challenge to keep it from wheelies, it is stupidly overpowered, that thing on a 2s can go faster than a hyper vs on 4s if you manage to use throttle control too keep the front 2 wheels on the ground.

to top it off it can also use 3s...... it is completely nuts.

if i ever put a motor in something and it behaved like the brushless triton i would think i have gone to far and tone it down a bit and i have a 6000kv rustler...... on the same 2s batteries, that is how mad the brushless triton is :)

the boat behind them is also rc, it has 3 2700 mah nimhs as ballast and runs all day :)

using hyper mini st arms on the back of my xxt and the shocks, the hyper mini has a seized engine, so getting some use out of it's parts and the xxt is running a 4300kv on 2s :)

the grass hopper has had very heavy use, it is soley responsible for digging up massive holes in the garden, awesome wee lock down car :)

dads belated birthday present finally arrived, https://www.modelsport.co.uk/absima...ed-truggy-2-4ghz-green/rc-car-products/442301

apart from the steering on it which we knew about before hand its is pretty sweet for the money, it runs a lot better than the maverick atom did straight out the box, does seem like it hits about 20 mph and so far seems pretty robust, he never tried the stupid wee usb cable charger thingy, he just used a small heli one and a ftx surge one to charge 2 batts at same time, yeh i bought him a extra battery :)

he is in love with it, goes awesome in the rough garden and is fast enough for the car park out side and has broke zero things yet :)

just bought a blue hyper vse 100 amp :D

looking forward to thrashing my own one instead of having shots of dads red one and going easy on it lol

also have a spare set of badlands tyres and wheels for my nitro hyper 7 which should fit right on it, also think my ishima rave nitro has nandas on it which would also fit :D

I've been asking where this car came from. It belonged to a local lad who was into competitive rc racing years ago. He was a friend of my brother and gave it to him when he upgraded to another car.

Having another look in the loft I found the manual for it. It is a Cougar 2000 which Google tells me was the predecessor of the Fireblade, so good guesses.

It looks well used at a glance. I might have a better look at if it could run again later.

Some of those old Schumacher's are quite collectable.
You can probably still get parts for it.
Thanks, I think you're right. There looks to be a few websites and shops that cater for old cars. If I can get the right parts I might try and rebuild it, looks to be a step up from the single Tamiya I've built in the past.

Although it looks like I'll need a few things...

I would also need the transmitter and electronics.

Could be a nice little project - lots of parts here: https://www.racing-cars.com/spares/
Thanks for the link. They have some of the parts I would need. I am going to have a go at rebuilding it.

The car is separated in pieces now and it looks like I can still get the key broken parts - a lower chassis plate and rear pivot blocks.

There are some good websites that provide a lot of the correct components you need for these old cars. I have found some that will sell you a full set of hex head screws and bearings for the car. It also needs wheels and tyres, shock springs, a new body shell and undertray (there is a company that makes these) and new spoiler mounts. I would also need some grease for the differential and some shock oil.

Is there anything else that may be needed or useful for rebuilding the car itself before considering the electronics? It looks as if there is a lot of experience on this thread.

Thanks!

get a cheapo esc and a new steering servo and a cheapo 2.4 ghz rx and tx and deffo a new battery :)

you can ditch the second servo on the mechanical speed controller if u get an eletronic one and also makes the 4 aa battery humpback pack redundant.

I think you're right. I also hadn't considered that the servo gets installed quite early and that the upper chassis plate and steering is built all around it. So I have ordered a relatively cheap Absima transmitter, receiver and servo, a Hobbywing esc and a battery! Both those brands are new names to me. Then I should be able to test it all while building it without needing to take it apart again to add it later. The car did actually have an old Novak esc in it.

I've cleaned all the parts as best as I can and am now waiting for some deliveries, hopefully in the next few days.

got my new toy on monday and it is just as nuts as i hoped :D

treating it a bit rougher than when i had shots of dad's one, gonna get some blue wheel nuts and deffo a rear skid plate, loving it so far, gonna have to slightly dremel my old nanda's and bad lands wheels a bit as the inside catches when at full steering lock so just wearing down the stock tyre's first :)
