RC cars

@Yrkoon The new brushes have not arrived yet, I refitted the old ones and the springs and it seemed to make a good contact and ran great. But I spoke too soon, today it died 10 seconds into a fresh battery. I will try the new brushes and springs when they arrive. Hope I can make it work, it is more fun than the newer one!

Also ordered a few minor upgrades and replacement parts... must stop buying stuff....

that is good to hear :) for future reference if you'r transmitter has end point adjustments for the steering you can limit how much the servo rotates on each end, i think eg limit it so it stops just before the horn is gonna rub stuff, done something like that with my grasshopper rerelease :p

Thanks. If you did this would you still have the full extent of steering or would it just reduce it so that the steering mechanism did not rub against itself? It was a fairly big job to take it apart like I did to fix it as the servo is buried in between the upper and lower chassis and the car has to be stripped back quite a way. I tested it quite a lot before reassembly!

it just reduces how much the servo can move, some servos have more travel than others :)

@Yrkoon Yes, good point. It had an old Acoms servo in which I think was a cheap one that had been put in just to make it work. It steers great now.

ah sweet glad to hear, my sisters boy friend had a shot of my grass hopper the other day and he said it stopped steering.... yes it had but on the top of the dx3c tx grip is a little backwards and forward toggle for steering rate, the dumb ass had the setting to 0% so i showed him exactly what he done and he went and done it again on his next shot..... lmao

yeh some servos can move 90 degrees others 30 and so on always good to play with the servo travel if one is going to much for the model :)

awesome it is steering great now, and aye acoms stuff is a bit cheap but i had one in my sand viper untill recently :D

only had to replace the acoms servo in my sand viper because the steering started to go wonky after years of abuse and the splines on the servo were worn down and slipping, then the servo saver had loads of slack and a bit wobbly :p

Afternoon been a while since I frequented these forums. I'm venturing into this hobby as an absolute beginner. Been looking at trucks for the last couple of months and following some advice for beginners i am considering the below. Any thoughts or advice? I’ll be running the truck on a grass field, up and down my cul de sac and some dirt trails nearby. Any feedback would be much appreciated as not had much luck in any of the facebook groups :(

edit: that stampede i linked says no battery or charger :(

just ordered one of these plus the full ball race bearings https://www.modelsport.co.uk/tamiya-lunch-box-black-edition/rc-car-products/370624

just something to do plus looks a lot of fun for the garden and building tamiya kits is fun for me, got proper serious stuff but instead of using my new hyper vse earlier i played with the grass hopper in the garden :)

so much heavy use and i have only had it for about 6 weeks and yes it dug that big pit up on the stock 380 motor and a nimh battery, needs new tyres now but out of stock every where lmao

@Yrkoon That Grasshopper does look cool, I like the deep walled tyres. I guess my memories of my Hornet breaking in my youth is because it was mostly driven on the street by a youngster without good driving skills!

hehe cheers, it is slow but it is fun on the bumpy garden with it's pogo sticks :D

@Yrkoon I've had the Tamiya I built last year out in the garden this weekend and really enjoyed it. Battery lasts a long time and it took a few bumps well.

awesome m8, looking forward to my black lunchie coming the morn, stock motor to start with and gonna try some simple mods that will be free for me as i have so many random spare parts of stuff :)

what tamiya was it?

you should see a fresh pair of hopper back tyres, my ones are bald, when fully treaded they dig the big holes :p

dad gave me a shot of his little 18 scale ftx crawler in the dark earlier, looks nice with the lights and silent compared to my tt-01 with lights or my drifter, it is so quiet, nice little thingy but i bought a lunch box instead :p

@Yrkoon It is a Land Rover one. It was unmarked and barely used until this weekend but the nippers helped me fix that. It has lights on it too. I have some photos of it somewhere, I will dig them out.

It was a birthday present and I enjoyed building it. That is mostly why I wanted to rebuild the old buggy I found.

Ordered my 6yo boy his first proper RC car yesterday, he’s been talking about it for months :D Traxxas Rustler 4x4 XL-5 (brushed version). Have to say I’m pretty excited myself!

That looks a heck of a first car. Hope he enjoys it. Would be interested to know what you think about it when you get it. I've been looking at these type of more modern cars.

@CLAWS what's your budget? Set on a monster truck or would other types of truck be alright too?

Hey buddy, looking around max. £300 and yes a truck will only do :D

A few conversations I managed to squeeze out with people on facebook have got me leaning heavily towards the BigFoot. Its 2WD but then as a beginner I dont think thats the end of the world - i can save up for the Stampede kit and upgrade it to 4WD later on down the line.

A nice chap on facebook recommended a vaterra suburban crawler which looked awesome but..... I want something faster. I will probably buy a crawler at some stage but right now I want a fast(ish) truck.

For that kind of budget I'd be looking for something decent in 1:10th scale that's got upgrade potential over time, something like this should be available in budget in UK maybe, looks like a decent bit of kit: https://www.associatedelectrics.com/teamassociated/cars_and_trucks/RIVAL_MT10/RTR/
