RC cars

Woops.... That was pretty spectacular!

Break this car pretty much every time I run it. lol. Think I drive it too hard for it's build quality, eyeballing a step up to an Arrma Granite or Team Associated MT10 - probably the Arrma.

tis but a scratch, only one tyre ;)

Behold the power of 5S.

@Building Candy That looks great, one question I had with the shock linkages (the triangle bits, may have a different name) do you just make something that fits or do the whole engineering based on shock/springrates and
travel and all that jazz? If the latter is that something you learnt at Uni/career or self-taught?

Cantilevers, not so much spring rates, more the travel. Normally these have something like 100mm shocks, to mount them on the top of the chassis I can only fit 70mm, so the cantilever turns 10mm travel into 7mm, just needs thicker oil and a stronger spring to compensate. Anyway, it was a but of an overkill which is why I made the race 2.0, I did this all in cad, carbon and full alloy versions. This is nothing I have studied, I just work it out, trial and error.

That's awesome, really like that! What mill do you use? Can you post up some pics of your engineering setup? I've got some weird fetish for this stuff :p

I have a little Sieg X1 mini mill and a C2 lathe, had them for years now. I have no engineering training or back ground, I just bought them and learnt how to use them.

What are the regulations / laws with RC cars in the UK?

If I bought a nitro one and used it on the street outside my house; is that allowed?

I'd say the only issue you'll have is noise. I'd suggest starting a thread on the topic, you can call it something catchy like "Should something be done about nitro RC cars used on the street?"

I've just ordered a Maverick Quantum to have a play with for now and see if I'll actually use it.

Years ago I had a HPI Savage which I loved although I remember on the first day I got it, first jump landed upside down on a rock and cracked the engine in half :p No other major catastrophes after that though!

Your good to go, but honestly battery ones are much better these days and quieter.

No one really uses nitro cars anymore.

Oh right. I had a nitro one a couple years ago. Had issues getting the motor tuned up nicely and eventually gave up.

I’ll have to do some reading up on the electric ones and see how far they’ve come.

At least with an electric one; no one is going to bitch about the noise.

As long as they have road tax, visible licence plates and insurance I don't see a problem.

:D

Yea that's good you found it, save a few quid and days waiting.

You are supposed to check all of the screws and bolts, bit meh..... the wheels are the main ones.

You got the Brushless version?

Yeah brushless and bought a 3s battery too which I’m glad as it doesn’t wheelie on the included 2s :p

Nice, Kevin Talbot reckons they are one of the toughest RC cars out there so you made a good choice.

Reckons the only weak points are the front lower wishbones, but you can get upgraded rpm ones for example:

See how you get on though.

Enjoy.

Went to the local park yesterday with a friend and we came across a handful of skate ramps. Stayed away at first as the abuse I've seen YouTubers give them.. But then couldn't resist :p

It was actually the best fun I've had in ages. Managed to start landing the jumps most of the time. Didn't go too crazy and it survived everything with a few scrapes!

Anyone got recommendations for removing old ruined tyres that are glued to the rims? I've looked at removing the destroyed tyre from my Maverick a few times, it's absolutely stuck solid. I've done a bit of research and there appears to be a few options, either involving various chemical soaks, or boiling the wheels and tyres and stinking the house out. Or is it just less faff to buy a new set of wheels and tyres?
