RC cars

Yeah it was 3S. It compared in terms of performance, where I'd expected it to be faster and more mad to drive considering the hype. Might just be that the old Quantum flux was actually a way better car to drive than I was giving credit for, it's just made of glass!

Sounds to me a Savage XS Flux would be perfect for you… :D

I had a savage XS once, it was one of the worst trucks I have has by a mile.

This was about 10 years ago, I had the XS SS, the builders kit with the upgrade parts, I would hope some of these issues would have been sorted by now, has anyone built one recently can maybe confirm?

The shocks were decent (alloy, threaded bodied) but that was about it. The two sides of the chassis didnt marry up correctly, there was actually an error on the molding so one of the screw holes was about 3mm out. The truck was very chunky and heavy, it was heavier than a lot of my 1/10th trucks but shorter and narrower. Due to the weight it needed 3s to get it moving but this made it very unstable.

The suspension arms are very short so it was poor over rough ground and grip rolled a lot, it took a lot of work to get rid of the slop too, the hinge pins were 3mm and the holes on the wishbone were 3.2mm! they all needed shimming to stop the back and forth movement too.

The diff cups were oversized and needed sanding down to get the bearings over them

The list went on and on, I found my old build thread! omg 12 years ago now:

Even with all these build problems the main thing was it broke at an alarming rate, not due to crashes, but due to the wear on the drivetrain, the dog bones and drivecups were very lightweight, like 1/10th buggy thin, they would grund the cups down and snap the pins very quickly. This was purely down to the weight of the truck and the 3s power. On 2s it would probably be ok, but it would be my last choice for a small 3s truck, there are many better options.

No idea about the older xs trucks but the newer XS Flux the 1/11 ish size one is pretty good. Not had any issues stripping it and rebuilding so far and only thing that has broke is a body post. On 2s it’s a beast and on 3s it’s just insane.

Mine was also free which i suppose makes it better value….

Bargain, probably for the best I only just spotted this!

Think I'm going to be buying a new Basher soon. Saw TomleyRC's video on the new Maverick Quantum2, and how much better it is than the Quantum that I've got, and I'm wanting to get out again after a year off only really driving miniature scale crawlers. Did look into fixing my Quantum, but I need new tyres, the bearings are all siezing, I've got some damaged bits of suspension and one off the diffs is sounding rough. Plus nearly ever time I drive it I damage the drivetrain, or have it work itself loose. Just gonna cut my losses and buy something better.

Not sure that I'll get the Quantum2, waiting to see some more reviews. The early previews suggesting it's a bit nosy heavy on jumps is disapointing considering how otherwise excellent it looks for bashing. MT10 is the other key contender, even though I don't like the body on it.
Back in kinda stock

Wheelspin have the Maverick2 Flux in stock ..

Yeah, same with Modelsport - atleast the red version. I'm wanting to see some more reviews though, little worried by the nose heavy / lack of air control character that the truck seems to have in the videos I've seen so far! I want something that can do some flips comfortably.
FREE Prime delivery 20 February - 20 March
Odd, shows those dates for me now, but still says dispatched in 6-7 months underneath!

Go on Go on i am tempted

New RC10 B7 should be at most of the major retailers tommorow, will hopefully have mine by lunchtime :D

Very different geometry to the proceeding B6 family, and a 5 gear transmission that bring the weight further forward as well - looks like it's going to be awesome on track!

What are peoples favourite RC channels on YouTube?

I watch this channel fairly regularly because I like to follow the racing;

Does anyone know of any similar channels?

Yes, just as I decided to change to Yokomo :) I've run Associated for years and fancied changing to another manufacturer.

I'm not a fan of 2wd but as most run in this class, I do it anyway. I enjoyed the 74 immensely so was worried about switching to the MO but the change has been a success.

Yokomo are fantastic cars - if there wasn't so much carry over of parts from the B6.4 I'd have probably switched to a Yok SO 2.

Was thinking about switching for a while in 2WD, but...

- Losi/TLR are out as they are crap with parts support and the amount of changes needed to get competitive on carpet is crazy.

- Xray parts support is too hit and miss - spares for the current cars are just very expensive, plenty of the common bits to break are hard to get hold of reliably.

- Schumacher have a great car with the LD2/LD3 but I've seen too many with major breakage from minor accidents.

- Kyosho have stopped selling the Rb7 with no replacement on the cards.

There's always Serpent - but it's rare to see someone running one tbh. Mugan have a new 2WD on the way - but not seen one in the wild yet.

I ran the B7 at the weekend - very strong car. Deffo got the potential to be quicker than the B6.4

Lipo i think at this time i will give a miss
Will the cheapest 6kg servo do ?

AliExpress is usually the go-to for servos. Recently purchased a few SPT 4412LV and INJS014 14KG and have been excellent for a tenner a piece.

Bought an Avante to amuse myself during lockdown. Combined it with an equally nerdy hobby and built a virtual version as well...

Good kit that... prices have shot-up to £499 since!

Sorry. I'm aware I'm spamming the thread but I have some Tamiya BZ Superstock brushed motors for sale here if anyones interested. BNIB

Great motors these for buggies. I currently use one in my Top Force Evo on a 2S LiPo and it's quick for a brushed motor.

Debated on a new kit recently but decided to focus on building a fully hopped-up TT-02R with a Super Stock TZ motor.
