RC cars

Whilst this might not be exactly the kind of market most on this thread are looking at. Can anybody recommend an RC car or preferably truck for a young lad? Nephew is turning 5 in a couple of months and I want to buy him one. Typical sort of spec for the user so something durable and not too fast. Ideally not spending any more than £40 but that's fluid. I know it will not be much for that money but little point spending more on something too fast that will probably damage.

What about one of those stunt car toys, the ones with wheels bigger than the body so it doesn't matter if it's flipped over? They seem to be fairly durable and simple to control for the young ones.

Vorza turned up today. Controller battery cover was broken with the catch loose in the package. Car seems to sag quite a bit like the springs cannot hold up the back. Tbh I’m not overly impressed and have asked for a return and refund.

A cheap little run around :D

I've still got a rather old hyper10 that I used to race indoors, old 540 17t motor if i remember and nicad packs... Is there an easy way (ie kit of some sort) that I can convert it to brushless? reading this thread made me go find it up the loft lol :)

You can buy brushless ESC and motor combos. You'll almost certainly need to replace the NiCad with a Lipo battery.

If you're S. Wales theres a club in Cardiff. COBRA.

Yep for sure it all needs replacing. I guess I should have been more specific, are there brushless motors that fit the old 540 mounts?

I would look at a sensorless system that's just plug and play like the Hobbywing Max10 combos, they do them in a lot of different KV ratings, from 3000ish KV: https://www.rccarshop.co.uk/2020-10-07-08-21-041064158138-p

Upto 4600KV: https://www.rccarshop.co.uk/hw38010202-hobbywing-combo-max10-sct-esc-3660sl-4600kv-motor-p

You just need to fit a battery connector of your choice (your NiCd's must be dead by now so you probably want a Lipo battery as well!)

You can get much cheaper combos on amazon and the likes, but you get what you pay for - you can't go wrong with Hobbywing.

Every time I see this thread pop up I get the itch to get my rc cars back out again. I've got a Traxxas Revo 3.3 and an Acme Condor Pro, which I've probably had close to 20 years now. Might have to pull them out the loft and take them to work to give them a good going over in my spare time and get them running again.

Used to race at Holbeach club when I still lived in Spalding, they used to run buggies behind the black Swan pub in Donnington in the summer, though they only do on road indoors now (but all year round).
If your into your RC you should definitely pay them a visit on a Wednesday evening at Holbeach community centre though!

Anyone recommend a good radio transmitter/receiver combo? I've been looking at a few already but no hands on apart from watching the odd review, FlySky GT3B, GT5, G7P and the NB4. I have been trying to find the DumboRC DDF-350 + X10F(G) Receiver no joy in the UK. Did consider the Futaba 3PV.

Right now I'm in the middle of the Top Force Evo build and what quality this is, keeping things Tamiya by fitting a SuperStock BZ and have ordered a XV-02RS Pro which is being delivered later today.

Thanks for this :) Looks ideal. One question, do you know if its possible to estimate turns on a brushed to KV?
