RC cars

I recently bought my lad a used Traxxas Rustler and while cleaning it up I've discovered one of the shocks is leaking oil. Do I really need to buy specific RC shock oil or can anything of sufficient weight do?

Shouldn’t have looked at this thread.

Used to race nitro off road and 1/10th electric on road in my teens.

All fizzled out when I could drive real cars, drink and chase women but this thread has given me the itch.

Always wanted a big 1/5th scale petrol monster

Does anyone own the Traxxas Maxx v1 or v2? Would you mind sharing your opinions on it, I'm thinking it might be a good starting point for me and my lad to get into some RC time. I did look at the Maxx mini, but I'm not sure it's clearance and power will be good enough for some the grassy areas we have around us. Although I like the idea of us both having one to use at the same time

Anything of sufficient weight. Long as it’s probably between 250-700cst

But core Rc oil is pretty cheap and you can buy a range and see what the car feels like.

No. But heavily involved in Rc in general.

These are good… don’t get confused with xmaxx these are stupidly big and are basically weapons.

If you feel up to it and your lad would be interested think about buying a Tekno mt410 2.0 and some electrics.

Will cost a lot more… but the building experience may appeal?

I ponied up and got the proper shock oil, 40wt/500cst although after seeing the Traxxas shock oil tuning guide I think 50/600 might have been better. Anyway, the shocks are rebuild and ready to roll.

Yes. Normal for the F/R to be different a little.

Temp plays a part too. Although not sure how much you’d notice, it does play a part in buggy racing.

I doubt my lad will notice a difference (it's for him, honest) but did think of getting some metal shocks from AE as they are so cheap.
